My friend and I bought a 1988 xj from an insurance auction for $350. 220000 km's. We took it to the local mud pits. It lasted 2hrs. But it was impressive. With a bone stock wrecked jeep it managed to make at least 12 jumps, one we had at least 4.5 - 5 feet of air. It still drove home but after...
You are running the holley commander 950 efi system, correct? I was just wondering if you compared it to retrotek's boss efi system? You seem quite knowledgable and I would like to hear your opinion. Thanks
Yes I've tried it. If you have a small leak, (tiny) it should do the job but for how long I don't know. Also I don't know what you pay for it but with a discount I pay less than $10 for a can. If you don't have a charging hose yet spend the extra money and get the one with a gauge. If you can...
Thanks clearing that up, I have pulled 401's out of IH trucks before and I Asumed that the 390 might have also been used. Next time I'll check first. BTW its nice to have support from felow AMC enthusiest.
If you read what I read I said that AMC's have good low end torque and if you match that with propane you would be unstopable. Not once did I say anything about rockcrawlin' with a carb I know it sucks. So for you to bring up stuff about floats and jets just shows youre ignorance and inability...
Theres a couple of good web sites for propane ( www.gotpropane.com is a good one ) you just have to google them. as for the one from the parts yard, buy the whole thing. the IH (international harvester ) 390 c.i.d. is ( or should be ) an AMC 390. Which is the same block config. as the rest of...
I think that the AMC v8 looks like it belongs sitting in the engine bay of an xj. I've done my own. It wasn't that difficult, and it sounds a lot better in my opinion than a I6. I have no cooling problems and if you know what you are doing with a carb it works just fine off road. unless you are...
I'm not worried about getting hung up while wheelin and rock crawlin. This is going to be my DD and am looking to get possibly some more area in the back so I can use the back like the bed of a truck. I know I could just get a truck But were is the fun in that???
saw the other thread very detailed and well done thread, Thankyou. As for the jeep "ever sick boy!!". I am thinking of extending the xj from the rear wheelwell back ( as much as I can without it looking stupid ) to gain a little more usable "bed" room. I'm thinking maybe 8-12" at the most...
I have plans to chop the back of my 88 xj and extend the "bed" and add a comanchee tailgate and tail lights. Has anybody else done this? If so do you have pics or advice?
