home built long arms

Sorry for the mud :eyes:
Why ya appologizin???:doh::nono:

anyhoo...

you're saying that you used stock bushings all around? how does that flex? Also, you said that you just "bent some tubing" meaning..... regular steel? They look great BTW.

hey, the chips thread is back..

not cool man..... not cool.:tears::roflmao:

stock bushings (rubber or poly?) all around.. now that's a great idea! I just hope you reinforce your CA mounts b/c the sheet metal factory ones probably will not like you very much after much flexing.

You can use just "regular steel" assuming you're talking about HREW for your links... But I wouldnt when the cost difference is minimal at best... I would be afraid of HREW taking constant impacts from obsticles... especially if you bend it.. but that's just me. Also, the cost of a JJ w/ a threaded rod already welded to it is the same cost as just a bare JJ in a housing.. welding a G8 bolt to it.. come on man..

Also w/ the arms pictured.. what's going on w/ your frame end control arm mount? The outside and inside appear to be different? Just wondering why not continue the mount on out on the inside to help distribute the load better? Also, it might just be me but that bend looks freaking scary.. maybe it's my computer...

Also build some adjustability into the system.. I mean that's a no brainer..

lol, I didn't even notice that those weren't adjustable! and yeah, good point about the threaded johnny... why WOULDN'T I do that? do you know if they include a weld-able nut with them?

NA... just pick up any ole nut and weld it to some tube be sure to weld all the way around it as hot as possible... it shouldn't warp or anything ;) .... No I've never seen it done that way but I'm sure somebody's done it..

Pick up the proper tube insert from somewhere like Ballistic Fab... You'll need a jam nut also..

They even sell tubing.... I personally like this type of setup.. 1.25" Rod end w/ 3/4" HMS... http://www.ballisticfabrication.com/XM-16-125-w-10-ball-CrMo-rod-end-w-kevlar-liner_p_84-1425.html

and hows that square tubing working out for him?

Hey, not my rig, not my worry's..... Just using as an example.. we'll see how it goes.

I've expressed my concerns. I think it may hold up a while.

Meh.. Its just what I've been reading and what I've seen.. but I'm sticking with rebuildable 2.5" joints... Might use heim's for steering but thats it. To each their own though.

which is why I'm liking the Johnny joints...

(notice my mind isn't made up.....?)

No, i used ends off of my Rustys short arms, but i just got my Ballistic fabrication Flex joints, these will be going at one end of my arms, and all my heims came in for my steering from them to :clap::)

ok, so here's what I'm thinking.....

Radius style arms with stock bushings everywhere except the frame end, which will be a flex joint such as a Johnny Joint. They will use HREW tubing and will be made adjustable by using a tube insert secured by a jam nut. both the lower and upper arms will be adjustable using this method.

Did I miss anything?

How's that sound?

It sounds good other than your choice of tubing.One really important thing to look at when shopping for steel is dimension.DOM and seamless tend to have exact dimensions that "equate" to other tubing/bolts/etc.Example:HREW 1-1/2x.120 wall......DOM 1-1/2"x.125 wall.

alright, alright, I guess I need to splurge for DOM...glad to hear that my design at least sounds good...
