609 and 13 bolt

why use ctm's?
this is a quality build with high $ parts, so why not use rcv shafts?
they are much stronger than ctm's & not really that much more $.

Go look at race cars. Most run ctms. RCVs are for high end trail rigs, not serious builds.

That is some sexy shit right there!

I'd probably run RCV's too, but not like ctm's aren't gonna be strong enough!

Yeah theyre not for serious use at all.

A ctm and an axleshaft has more steering throw and is easy to rebuild and refresh but for the money the rcv is the most user friendly axleshaft out there. Gun drilled greasing, less rotational wear in the cv over time, as well as the BEST warranty and people ive ever dealt with.

Assholes and opinions, everybody has one. The rcvs have held up for us under countless years of beating in dana 44's. If i were putting a 609 together they would get the nod without question

Both are very strong I'll agree. I had ctms in my d44. And loved them. They did their job and did it well. So I'm sticking with them.

So I figure it's time for an update

Started throwing the front end together and put it under the jeep aaaaand.... my Trac bar will be a full foot shorter than my drag link because of the coil springs. So I'm going to coilovers. But I also just got the news I'm getting laid off so unless someone would like to donate some coilovers things will be on hold.

Just ordered my coilovers. I'm getting some king 14in 2.0s. Spring weight will be 250/300 and valving will be 15/10. I've also decided to go full hydro and the front axle will be getting pushed forward a few inches. I've also started on my hybrid cage so there should be some real progress in a few weeks.

Sorry it's been so long. I got laid off and we all know how that goes. But here's what's been happening since. I decided to keep the coil springs and leave the front end where it was at. I also started working on my hybrid cage. Built a center consul with way too many switches. Stuffed some Mastercraft pro 4 seats in it. Picked up some prp harnesses while at koh last year. Did the 96 booster/Mc install. Cut out the front x member, built a bumper and stuffed my winch. Just ordered my steering from howe and I'm saving for an atlas.

Built a dual battery tray and will be relocating them to behind the passenger seat.

awesome build man!!
was wondering about the 609 front. did you use any kind of a centering bar when you welded your inner c's on the tubes, I know for the rear axles you have to do this to keep everything straight just wanted to see about the front.
I plan on building one for my Comanche next winter

I had the front housing custom built for 78-79 f350 inner shafts. I sent the inner shafts to diamond axle and they welded the inner c's on and I did all the brackets, link mounts and ram mount. It's literally a Franken axle. Thanks man.

ok cool deal. everything I've found so far they have not used a jig of any sort just wanted to tough bas with someone that has one. even on the episode of extreme when they built a set Ian just set his pinion angle and caster and welded away.
just wanna make sure I wont run in to problems doing it like that ya know

I didn't use a bar/pucks when I narrowed my HP60. I cut and cleaned the tube to the length I wanted, cut out the old tube and cleaned the inside bore of the stock inner C. Drove the C on until it was the correct distance away, then rotated it to match the correct pinion/caster angle

It's been awhile so here's an update for ya. Got the cage finished up. There may be a few small additions down the road but for now. Picked up a stak 3 speed monster box and I didn't think to check the shaft length and snapped a piece of the transfercase adapter. I have another one on order. I also ordered the shims to put inside the steering ram.

Quite possibly the easiest way to install a t case.

Best pic of the cowl bar. I'm very happy with it. 7 bends with 2 different benders.
