d44 pattern check

backlash is at .007 again.
rechecked the pattern.
just confirming with you guys before i pull a thou or two out

Still at .007 backlash? For an almost perfect setup. Pull .001 out of the pinion and tighten the backlash up .001-.002. Backlash is usually .005-.010 for 44's, depending on gear vendor.

Your probably not using setup carrier bearings.

What you have now is acceptable. The pattern is centered on the face (most important) of the tooth but not heel to toe (not great but works).

No prob. No, I think you should try .010". Are the specs your using from the gear manufacturer? Are you torquing down your bearing caps when your checking your pattern or no?
 
im using specs from the dana manual, and i'm running a dana ring and pinion so it should be right. i dont feel comfortable going out of those specs, no offense.


i am torquing everything to specs before checking the backlash and pattern.
