Compare international Health care

There was a dude on here a while ago who came off as bragging about how much he was making on unemployment, and that he was going to stay on unemployment until he found a job getting paid what he thought he deserved.....

He got flamed for a while and I think eventually changed his tune. I stopped reading it when it got really ridiculous...

I dont get it wolf... you're saying thats what he does? lol

He was talking about how He was staying on unemployment because he could not find a job that would pay him the $16 an hour he felt that he was worth. Of course the part that took the cake was that he was talking about this in the "How do you pay for your Jeep Parts" thread. Of course his answer was with his extra unemployment money.

There are two problems with this. First, forcing people into it goes against our system of freedom. Second, some people choose not to have health insurance.
So how do you explain car insurance?

Perhaps many Americans don't want Socialism because they are educated about it.
Based on the rhetoric I've seen in the media lately, I beg to differ with that assessment.

Aw, give him credit, he tried....LOL...

Car insurance is completely irrelevant to this discussion.
So your car's more important to you than your health?

How about life insurance? Back atcha!
Car insurance and healthcare have similar, long-term, monetary repercussions on you while you're still ... hmmmmm..... alive.
If you get in a wreck or incredibly ill without insurance than your life is ruined.
Death, on the other hand, is cheap; you can crawl into a ditch, or build yourself a pine box for less than a happy meal.

It works amazing in canada but we also don't have a huge open border at the bottom of our country leading to a 3rd world nation basically.
Give it time, the US is quickly becoming a 3rd world country
I think all national health care would do in the states is rape the tax payers and bankrupt the country. The health care system in place already is bankrupting the tax payer, so what would be different? the results are the same.

3. MANY(not all mind you..) American's are afraid of socialist programs because they have grown up being told that any kind of socialist program is a step towards losing their freedoms and becoming a Communist. Although Socialism is closer to Communism then pure free market capitalism it doesn't make it a stepping stone. It COULD be seen as a stepping stone but there are many examples of socialist free market capitalist counties out there to prove this theory wrong.USA is already more socialist than citizens willing to admit, governement dpoing things for the common good, and the loudest "Anti-Socialist" yellers out there still accept benefits from socialist programs (roads, education, air travel safety) and not one of them will return their SSI check

The difference is, if you don't have life insurance, it doesn't affect some random stranger. Just like not having health insurance. No one cares if you are sick and/or die.

Car insurance is required to protect the OTHER idiot drivers on the road, or to protect the bank's investment (loan).

That is why car insurance is irrelevent here....

....

Au contraire. NOT having life insurance or health insurance does affect random strangers. The ERs are full of people seeking medical assistance holding up other patients also seeking aid. Had they had health insurance those same people could have sought preventative care prior to clogging the ER. While I sat in the ER with my 80y.o. mother who needed stitches for a leg gash we were exposed to many cases of influenza. She finally was seen by the attending physician. So yeah I care, and last time I checked I was still a someone.

Ever hear of potter's field, guess who pays for burying, ok now cremating, the remains of indigent people. That would be you and I, the taxpayers.

So the solution to that problem is to require someone else to pay for health insurance so that everyone can have it? Gotta disagree with that. Survival of the fittest my friend. If you don't have insurance, get out of the ER. As for the flu, sorry, no cure for that - you'll be exposed to that at the ER...grocery store....work....school....

Start making people responsible for their own actions. You want to be unhealthy, better make sure you have health insurance. Sound ridiculous? Maybe a little harsh, but the government coddling everyone isn't the solution. People need to be made responsible instead of relying on the gov't to create laws or madates to turn the masses into sheeple.

As for the indigent....so? No, I don't feel sorry for them. They are the epitome of people who want something for nothing.....they don't want to be a productive part of society, well, ok then. That's their choice, but if they're not paying taxes, they shouldn't receive any benefits - death or otherwise.

Sounds like you're a can do guy. I wonder how long you would survive in the wild with no society to provide for you. Even if you could hammer out your own gun, you would still need bullets. Face it we're all dependent on this country and the services it provides. You can say "No I'm not" when you respond to this message via the DOD provided inter-nets that we all paid for.

So you're on that bandwagon with Al Gore inventing the internets? I think Tim Berners-Lee might have some bones to pick with you....

I have nothing against society - I'm actually all for it. There is a HUGE difference between society and complete government control. You should re-read what I said above - I actually state my distaste for those who do not want to be a part of or contribute to society.....

But really, I'd love to go back out and survive on my own. SERE training is fun....

There are insurance programs for disability and as for the retired they should be saving up nothing using their tax returns to buy a boat or a new car every year.

As a financial security adviser I see these things all the time. I can't believe how much people squander away on stupid things when they should be saving.

If you're retired, you've contributed to society - I'll assume they paid taxes and planned properly for their retirement so that they're not a burden to the rest of society.

....you're reaching now....

Wow, really, you want every last detail. I'm trying to make it clear that I'm simply against those who REFUSE or do not WANT to contribute to society (aka pay taxes, obey the law, etc). What is wrong with that? Are you saying you enjoy your tax dollars going towards lazy, cheating, lying people who think they deserve to have everything handed to them while contributing nothing in return????

Scary that more than one of you feels that way....that's why the socialist movement has support....
