"I am thinking of ordering some foa shocks and bumps. Does anyone have any input on these guys???"

I have the 18" travel foa shocks. i love what they've provided for my ride so far. My rear end is soo much better than before at taking the whoops and jumps. Although i did add them at the same time as my 10 leaf National pack. The pack is still a little stiff, i think it needs to be broken in more. I took a leaf out and may be taking another out. I only have 3 trips on this set up now. So I couldn't tell you how they'd hold up in time but i can say i experienced no fading while hitting the rough stuff.
I think i ordered light/med comp and light rebound. I plan on ordering the 12" units for the front.

Yep, they are the ones I was thinking of.

Why would you think you would get more cops attention with these? You be lower in lift so thought is would attract less?

thats actually funny you would say that because my buddy Kevin got an ohv on highway ticket for driving his prerruner to get it tested for safety. Mine will still be at 4.5 plus inches so well see I might have to go higher dependng on what shackles use.

I was thinking of picking up the FOA's as well, they have some good reviews on PBB and the price is right.

I plan on mounting my front shocks to the control arm brackets with some shock tabs welded to the side. On the top I’ll most likely mimic Skullvarians build. This should hopefully allow the use of 11-12"s of travel up front and when and if I ever race I’ll strap em at 10. I'm strapped up front but not in the rear. I don't have enough travel in my leaf pack to warrant straps. My shocks are long enough and do not ever exceed full drop with my current set up. I choose the 18's because...well why not, the longer the better for cooling purposes. I plan on tying that hoop into a cage soon for anybody about to flame my set up. All though it’s taken a lot of abuse and nothing has gotten tweaked.

I'm using a fresh set of stock rubber bumps front and rear for two reasons.
1. Price, I can't afford em nor do I have the time to put into air bumps at the moment
2. Softer and more comfortable than poly

Those look incredible. Those rear ones are reason enough to want a 2 door! I bet with the doors off it looks like some futuristic military truck

any links to the foa reviews?

wow after all that reading I am so confused. Thanks for the links pornstar. I realy cannot decide if I want some 2 tube bypass kings or just some 2.5 remote res kings or something or if I just want 2.5 remote res foas or if I wanna wait for the foa bypasses to come out... Damn choices!!!

we are experimenting with new and exciting engines hahat it was my birthday and I have strange friends...

We did some wrenching and got the axle out and the other day I started my truss... pics soon.

I got one seat mounted (temp till I build the cage). I was just tired of the seat falling back when I would hit the brakes.

my friends love my jeep almost as much as me...Almost ha ha

If you're trying to go budget (in the title, but not exactly when you're considering King bypasses), a number of us are using the Prothane coil inserts which are real soft and go inside the coil. Some consider them a poor man's air bump, and they work great. I can hit hard and can't feel it bottom out. On mine they compress about 3.5". I use a stiff cut down Skyjacker coil and 7100's, it's not bad.

Looks like fun. :)

How did you mount them ? pics ?

They go inside the coil. The only thing you have to do is remove the stock bumpstop and make a round plate that you bolt back into where the bumpstop is threaded into. The coil inserts will just sit inside the coil and bump up against that plate. They come in various lengths, and are corrugated so they can collapse. I used the 10" and cut about an inch off. I have 12" shocks set with about 7" of up travel, and there is 3" of travel before the bumpstops hit and they compress 3.5". Very progressive, they are cheap, and easy to install. Here's a link:

I will most likely just be ordering the foa 2.5 resis tonight and if I dont like them then they go on my dd(other xj). I will most certainly be using some hydro bumps eventually.

I started my truss on thursday...
I started with a 2x2x2 U shaped 3/16 thick channel my dad had bent up at his work,(thanks Nate and George again)
also used some 3/16 flat bar to capture my lower ca mounts.

I cut and notched the channel to fit on the bottom of the 2wd beam. I still need to clean some stuff up, weld on my knuckle trusses(for the C's), figure something out for the upper ca mounts(any ideas guys?), and do something with my track bar bracket(any ideas?).

xjspeed009.jpg

I liked how this captured the lower ca mounts but I still need to cut something to weld over the stock part of the lower mounts that the bolt goes through.

I could not help myself

I painted my rear bumper finally. I re-painted my flares and front bumper to...

xjspeed014.jpg

xjspeed012.jpg

hard to tell because they are so dusty oops
xjspeed011.jpg

just ordered two foa 2.5 body 10 long resis yesterday so we will see how that works out. I figure if I dont like them for the prerunner they can just go on my dd jeep.

So I got some more work doneon the truss yesterday and started getting everything ready to put the axle on.
xjspeed016.jpg

its not as pretty as some but I trust how strong it is. I ended up going a little overboard on the knuckle trussing but I think they might actually clear the caliper(well see) if they dont then I will have to clearance them.
xjspeed017.jpg

I captured my upper and lower control arm mounts and cut my old shock mounts off. I am waiting on my new shocks to come to do the shock mount mock-up. I need to truss between the uca mounts when I get my bender done, and still do something for my trackbar mount(axle side).

the more I look at these the more I want a set on the front of my dd jeep with the collapsing f-150 rear bumps. I think that would be a good low cost setup for a little faster fun without extreme fab.

Finally, someone who "gets it". THANK YOU!!! THANK YOU!!!

You don't know how many times I have heard people say "14's will work, you will never cycle more than 14inches" haha

I have about 7" of unused travel and my shocks have never even come close to getting hot. They get just warm enough to function properly, and the heavy foot driving begins. I never understood would people wouldn't accommodate a longer shock for the same price for the sheer assurance factor of longetivity.
