NAC-Fest 2011!

When I was driving my XJ on the street, there were times that I just wished I had a spool in the rear. At least then you KNOW its locked all the time, so its predictable in all cases. My rear detroit would sometimes unload when I was going straight down the road, and it would be enough to make the rear of the Jeep jump out sideways at times.
My aussie does this to me a lot. It'll pop and the Jeep will almost change lanes. If I could find a spool for a 8.25 I would probably buy it and sell the aussie.

In one year DD'ing my Jeep with Aussies front and rear I've never had that issue.

Ive been driving the aussie now for a long time & its very predictable, I would never trade it for a spool. Its even more sensitive with a 5sp, but if I don't want it to chirp into parking spots I can drive it so it wont. Sometimes if you shift hard you will get some left to right action but "it is what it is".

I have never heard of a "lunch box variety" locker doing this, especially an Aussie as they seem to be one of the smoothest. It is very common with the full case detroits though, especially the old ones. Anyone that has driven on-road with one of these lockers has experienced the "tail wagging the dog" episodes assoc. with the full case Detroit lockers/soft lockers.

One of the most white-knuckle moments I had with this was when I drove out to Moab back in 01. I set the cruise control in my Jeep at 75+ mph on Rt 80 going across Iowa. I was noticing how I could let go of the wheel on the Jeep, and the crown built into the road would keep the jeep in its lane. I didn't touch the steering wheel for like 20 miles, and I was talking on my CB to my buddies traveling in the Jeeps behind me about it..... then my Detroit unloaded and right across the crown of the road I went!!!! Talk about an instant white-knuckle moment, and in the middle of nowhere no less... I almost became one of the "Children of the Corn" that day.

That can't be good!

and Holy Crap! How far of a drive is it from you to MOAB?

I love to do it in the next 5 years! Do yall just end up camping there? or are there hotels around?

my detroit locker sucks.

its an older one i think

has so much backlash in it that it feels like a very bad u joint.

after a long highway run it sometimes makes a loud bang on an offramp

my old front detroit was amazing. didnt even know it was there.

So actually about NACfest instead of lockers...

On the off chance I can't get my Jeep together in time (working too much / cant get the transmission together, etc)...

Does anyone have 2 extra seats my g/f and I can ride in? I really am hoping to get my junk together in time, but as a backup?

I'm a Newer NAXJA member and was wondering about NACfest.

-I wont have my jeep road legal by then and was wondering if it was a spectator friendly area. I want to go but wont be able to participate in trail runs.

-Think it's too late to find a camping area already? I would like to attent this one to be "some-what familiar" with the area for next year.

Thank You

Thank you very much! I am putting everything except the xj on the back burner, in hopes to at least do some of the easier trails. Let's see how this goes, Haha.

Does the camping have to be reserved, or did NAXJA rent the whole place out, every tent site is booked on the website and I'm assuming that is why?

There is an entire section of the campground reserved for us. $10/person/night. Swing on by!

That is awesome. I am going to be heading down with just my girl riding shotgun, It is good to know that this is a welcoming environment.

silly question but will our site have an electricity to charge phones/cameras? If not I may bring my extra battery to run my power inverter on overnight lol
