I like to assume that everything that is emailed to me via craigslist is a scam even if it reads 100% legit. This however looks more scam like then the usual I'll give you 200$ more if you delete your ad right now and take my money order. I just don't see what they would gain without the title unless they took it out of country of parted it. not to mention its a 99 Saturn not really worth scamming.

"was writing to ask if you would be willing to take a few payments on this? I could give you about 240 right now and 250 a week until it was paid off and an extra 250 for your trouble. I wouldn't ask for a title until it was paid off (of course), and we could put everything in writing. My truck is on its last leg and it probably won't last the week and since I drop my daughter off everyday I'm not trying to have it die on me with her in the car. If you're interested please let me know as I'd be willing to drive up there today. Thanks for taking the time to read my email!

Thanks,
John"

I googled his email address and found some forum posts on a scout website trying to sell a scout in 2005.

get him on the phone. get some sort of collateral for the vehicle, you holding onto the title is not enough. make sure the money orders pass at the bank (take him there with you) before you go any further.

if he's not willing to jump through hoops to make the sale happen, dont do it. i would get a photocopy of his ID and a major CC too. im all for helping people out when they really need it, but i am extremely wary of this type of thing.

Good Idea's :)

I think it's legit but I wouldn't do it since I am not a bank. Call me back after Visa passes your credit

I do agree but the fact is I need this car gone I've been trying to sell it for a couple months.

He may be just trying to make the best of a crummy situation....

But...

If it were me.... I might consider letting him make payments on it. BUT, the vehicle would remain in my possession, titled to me, until he makes the last payment.

I think I'll offer that route aswell specially if he has no collateral.

Do not sell a rig and keep the title. You will be the owner, subject to the liability issue. I sold a car to a guy, that never got the title signed over. About a year later I got a call from a police department, telling me they impounded "my" car and needed me to come claim it. I told them I sold the car to someone and it was not mine, they asked his name, how I knew him, then, we will hold your car for a few days for you to come claim it. I called my dad (a police officer, the police are your enemy), and told him about it. The car was pretty quick ('74 dusted 360 3spd 4.11) I wanted it back. My dad smelled a rat. He called identified himself, yes, the car was sold over a year before. Seems the guy driving it had a meth lab in the trunk, along with quite a bit of dope. IF I would have claimed the car they were gonna arrest me, because the guy's story was, he borrowed the car from the owner (me), and had no idea I was a meth cook. NEVER, sell a rig without a written sales receipt for yourself, and hand over the title. Taking the plates to insure it is registered in the new owners name is not asking too much. You do not want to be legally responsible for someone else's vehicle. I understand most people are honest, and try to do right, however, you need to protect yourself, and yours.

Just makin a point, you made my day! the story is true, the police are not your enemy, mearly good guys (for the most part, I'll go 99.4 percent) doing a really crappy job, for wages too low to get shot at for.

lol

do not allow the person to get your ride without gettin your money, and getting at least a signed sales receipt for your own protection. I'm glad I got the reaction I got. Just came from another area of this site after reading and responding to what I felt was an attack on OUR law enforcement officers. My father, uncle, two cousins are cops, and I hold them to a higher standard. I'm very proud of them, and of the police officers in my home town. I try to speak to the police in my home town at least once a month, and tell them thanks for a job well done, and if I have a problem with their actions, they hear that as well. To hear others defend them strengthens my believe, and makes it a bit easier when I feel as if some look at my father, and family as their enemies, and when one of them is hurt, or looses a partner, I don't feels as if they are looked upon as the enemy by others.:patriot:

Your an ungrateful SOB. You should appreciate the fact that they are willing to do their job for such low wages. I'll bet your dad is really proud that you turned out to be such a douche.

I want my thread back lol

Thanks for defending to police, I and my family appreciate it. Do not allow the vehicle to be taken without getting proof that it no longer belongs to you. You do not want to be liable for someone else's mistakes. If the car is still in your name, you will be responsible for any accidents it is involved in.
