Team NAXJA/Petty Cash Racing stock class KOH XJ build

anytime! always happy when someone actually engages in this thread. :) A lot of the time I feel like i'm talking to myself.

Whatever comments I could offer would merely prove the adage about talking to yourself being the only way to have an intelligent conversation.

But I do like to read this thread. Nice shiny stuff.

cal,

do you have a part number and a link for the 1" heims? Somewhere in between 1" and 1.25"

They are an FK part we just ordered through the local OffRoad Warehouse. 1" shank, 1" bore. They are a little harder to come by than a 1.25" shank, but they are available most places. The body and ball are also the same size.

Ah ok. weld in bungs? or some of your aluminum drag links?

What he said. ;) The rod end we used is FK JMXL16-1, but there is apparently a better part available for our app. I just sent FK a nice email asking a bunch of questions on that front, and will update here when I hear back.

Well, I emailed FK and within 10 minutes, I got a call back.

The JMXL16-1 is metal on metal, and will be too loose for a draglink in their opinion. the JMXL16-1T is a PTFE lined version and more appropriate, but, for a heavier King of the Hammers car, they suggest the JMXL16-1T-F1 - which is super secret and doesn't even show up on google - special designed for offroad racing.

Use that with FK 16-10HB or 16-10HB2 high misalignment spacers and should be good to go.

Those guys get an A+ for service.

It will show up on google now.

lol. i got the impression they want this information out there. having customers buy parts that don't work is never good service.

In our last installation, we swapped in fresh leaf springs.

Ultra4 rules stipulate that we have to be +/- 3" of the factory wheelbase. We're pushing that maybe a little bit, so now on fresh leafs, I took measurements and photos to defend a red card if we get one - as once we race on the leafs a while, they flatten out and we may go over the line.

104". .4" under our limit. Maybe a little closer than I thought, but we're kosher.

We swapped in a 1" rod end to the draglink last week, but i wasn't super happy with the quality of the part, and if you had looked close, the high misalignment spacer (Artec) broke while torquing the bolt, which wasn't super awesome.

Off-Road Warehouse more than come through for us, though. They wouldn't let me return installed parts, but they gave me a nice discount on the JMXL-1T-F1 and a set of their own brand of misalignment spacers, which I have to say are VERY nice.

From that angle, this part doesn't look ridiculously oversized. ;)

New plug wires. MSD 8.8mm, surprisingly a lot nicer than the Moroso parts they are replacing.

I have 2 8" heater hoses that basically run to the temp gauge and idiot light, and back again. The hoses were starting to get old and crack, and were the only non silicone hoses on an otherwise nice car, so i replaced them.

Rear bumper was getting crushed up a bit, and pinching the rear shackle.

No photos of it, but we very sketchily shoved a hi-lift between the bumper and tailgate to push it down, while pounding on the passenger rear quarter. Its not perfect, but the shackle swings freely now.

The last couple times we filled the fuel cell all the way up, fuel was weeping around the rollover valve on the vent.

Pulled it and found the bottom half was an HDPE piece and the threads were stripping out. Yuck.

Replaced with a summit unit that is all metal.

The bumpstop tower on the passenger side was bending in toward the frame, and causing the coil to rub the frame on compression. Noisy, and hard on the springs.

We didn't really want to tackle cutting it all off and rebuilding it, but wanted to do something to help for this race at least.

A tree strap and a winch from the side. Maybe not the most professional job, but it will get us through Glen Helen.

It had the worst oil leak in the world, so I did a rear main for him Sunday. If you've ever done this job, I don't have to tell you that I looked just like the ground under the engine. :(
