dirty d

my `92 jeep xj w/4.0,aw4 and 245,000 miles has a cracked header, needs both motor mounts and a tranny mount. this doesn`t include the fact that it could also use 2" of lift just to get back near stock ride heighth, new shocks, and probably control arm bushings too......lol

anyway, been working about 60 hours a week, internet surf time has gotten cut way into so no,i actually haven`t had the time to search this site for my answers.

i need to replace the header very soon and won`t to do all the mounts at the same time. would like to purchase from a site sponsor if anyone could direct me to the proper one. if they have an e-bay store, that would be a plus.

this is my dd when i`m not on the bike so i need to do it all at once.

i`ve been without car, truck and bike payments for a few years now and have decided i really, REALLY like that feeling so i`m just gonna slowly get the xj back up to fairly decent standards

Header: http://www.ineedparts.com/index.php?target=products&product_id=15343

Buy a good gasket, the one that comes with it is crummy.

Also, put a flex tube section in the downpipe where it crosses from left to right before the CAT--relieves stress on the header--here is a sample: http://www.cxracing.com/mm5/merchant.mvc?Screen=PROD&Store_Code=CXR&Product_Code=FLEXPIPE-250x8

Engine Mounts: Brown Dog, natural rubber (unless you don't mind vibration, then poly): http://browndogindustries.com/

Cost more than OEM, but you can rebuild them and/or switch from natural rubber to poly.

Transmission Mount: OEM or Daystar Poly.

I run Brown Dog natural rubber engine mounts and a Daystar poly transmission mount.

thanks folks. that header definitely loooks like the way to go. probably gonna go w/ the natural rubber mounts not sure yet. gonna order first of the week .

alright, believe it or not i`ve just gotten a day off to take care of this but i have another question.

i was tooling around on e-bay comparing the apn header that was recommended here and noticed several auctions w/ another style header that has two "acordian" looking bulges on two of the pipes.

can anyone enlighten me as to what that`s for??

just curious as i don`t recall ever owning a 4.0 with that style header.
thanks

Pretty much a marketing "wet dream".

While I have seen 4.0 headers broken up in that area, the majority I have run into are broken down at the collector--those "accordions" are in the wrong place and playing the wrong tune IMHO.

Could you point where I could buy a better one, please?
I'd guess this is not the only way to buy a bad one.

Do they last longer than OEM?
Are these any good?

Do you know where to buy poly mount for manual transmission that came with 4.0 in 96?

Thank you,
Andrey

The Brown Dog mounts are stout and well worth the extra coin. Like Joe said they are rebuild-able so while the initial investment is more the rebuild kits are very cheap. Not to mention the quality and design are on another planet compared to OEM style mounts.

For the tranny mount take a look at the access holes in the cross member to see if they are centered for offset by an inch or two. I got my mount from Napa Auto and read this thread here. Josh gave me some good info with pics of the two types of mounts offered for the jeep.

Good luck Andrey

Pick up a Fel-Pro, any parts store.

There are two mounts. One is 1 1/2" tall and one is 3" tall. The guiding factor is how the exhaust is mounted--seriously. If you have a heavy steel plate mounted to the transmission with an "arm" for the exhaust hanger you will need the 3" tall mount. Quadratec sales people are helpful. Pictures of the heavy 3" mount below on my AX15.

Thank you,
Andrey

Are ones made by mopar any worse than fel-pro?
