Snorkle be gone!

X2! Troy helped me with my swap and it was about 14 hours.:repair:

It took 14 hours BECAUSE you were "helping"............ It normally takes 6 hours.

:D :moon:

Figured I'd revive this thread and express my utter frustration with not being able to figure out this damn jeep's issues........

The BOR rig has been driveway art for damn near a year and I haven't driven it other than to move it out of the way and twice to go get parts a mile away.

Today, I decided to drive the piss out of it, blow the cobwebs out and see if I could figure out the front wobble.

Wobble was found to be a pretty out-of-round tire on the right front. Moved it to the back, set all the tires air pressure to 28 psi from the 18 that had still be in them from the last time I had it wheeling and it drove quite a bit better. Progress....... yay.

But what I just still cannot figure out is it's friggin' lack of power and "slushy" transmission shifts. I swear, a 2.5L would run circles around the damn thing.

:banghead:

It may have gotten to the point I may have to take it to a Jeep specialist with high-end diagnostic tools to get this figured out.

No codes
Runs rich
Idles like it should
Throttle response in park is fine, in drive, it's like it's towing a real heavy load up hill.
Trans kicks down into 2nd for just the easiest of acceleration - passing a car on flat ground, or heading up a slight hill.

Just plain aggravating.

i fancy myself a pretty hot dawg tech....and it seams drive-ability is one of my strongest suits. if you're interested i can bring my solis up some time and we can play for a while.....yano before you spend uber big bucks and all. Besides the fact is mexican labor is super cheap... :) i work for tacos and tecate lol

Do you think it may be a weak spark? Not all the fuel igniting causing the lack of power and it running rich. If I remember correctly, you have already looked at the o2 sensors and tps. I can't remember if you checked the map sensor or not. Maybe there is a leak in the manifold gasket. :dunno:

What year is it again? Does it still have the distributor setup or is it the coil pack setup? Bad coil or coilpacks maybe?

clogged CAT will definately cause a loss of power, and if its been running rich.....

weak coil?

Bad hall effect sensor?

Either of these has potential...... might swap 'em both out just for grins..... I've always had my suspicions about the hall effect, but I've always known those to simply crap out, not be flaky. :dunno:

As posted earlier, indeed a plugged cat will cause similar performance issues, but it'll be consistent. Mine will occasionally have moments of decent performance, but pretty rare. I've even noted just a hint of a surge every once in a while.

Gonna look at the condition of the entire distributor the next time I can dig into it. Bushings, shaft play, hall effect.

If all is well sitting still but falls to shit while driving....

.... What about potential tranny issues? :dunno:

.

This is not always the case. The broken pieces of cat can shift around causing variations as you've described. A new direct replacement Magnaflow cat can be had for $80. If I still had my Jeep I'd swap you for a few days just to check it out. Maybe one of these other slackers will??

I've got a whole box full of sensors I replaced on Zac's 97 last summer. I could just get you the box, and you can swap away until something changes.

The cat is not broken up - I rapped on it a while back and it's solid, no rattling inside. It's a small aftermarket cat that is not all that old...

What's puzzling me is the after cat O2 sensor doesn't seem to be doing anything to correct the rich issue....
