Ok I’ve got a 98 with a auto tranny I’m running 33’s and 4:56 gears, according to my GPS my speedo is off by 10 at 60 (speedo reads 70). When I’m going up a hill if I don’t mash the gas the jeep will climb getting slower and slower and the RPM’s will go below 1200 before it down shifts at which time it will jump up to about 3000 and it will stay there for what I feel is a long time before it up shifts again. This seems to be creating a problem when pulling my pop-up camper, by the time I get to the top of a long hill I’m doing 30 at close to 3000rpm’s and the jeep gets hot and if the hill is a couple miles long I overheat. I’ve replaced the whole coolant system not the fan clutch yet but that seems to be fine. My question is, is this a shift point issue if so how can I adjust shift points, do I need a chip? Or is this not a shift point issue at all.
