Hard? No. Expensive? I dunno, maybe $10 for the carpet and $5 for a tub of glue?
I ditched the stock headliner back when I did the cage since it is so tight against the roof. The carpet is just glued directly to the roof...

very nice! I'm thinking of doing basically the same thing for my comanche, but am having troubles figuring out the corner since it's not hard corners like a cherokee.

Henry outdoor carpet adhesive. Comes in a 1 quart plastic container, apply it with a finger trowel.
