We did go into Arches. Apparently dogs are cool in your vehicle, just not in the back country and not on trails. I don't think we realized that we were going on a 20 mile 4 wheel drive trail into the back country of Arches that day. Our bad. We honestly did not have the dogs out of the vehicle more than one time to potty, stretch, and drink some water in a parking lot while we were there. The trail you see in that picture we ran the 3rd day is called Tower Arch I think although it goes past Eye of the Whale Arch at the very end of it too. It was rated blue/moderate and ended up being a lot more difficult since the Easter Safari.. Those guys really did a number on the stuff that's out here. It was all really washed out, loamy, all the rock stacks were spun out of the way..
That's what sucks by the way; we lost the film from the first two days. I didn't realize hitting that option really made all of the pictures really gone.. Forever.
The first day we hit Fins N' Things right off the bat like everyone said to. We tried Hell's Revenge afterward cause it was right next door. We didn't get to far before I figured I was a little out of my league and we turned around. We ended up running Porcupine Rim after that, and called it a day.
Went to Top of the World the second day cause I had to get that Jeep on the edge of a cliff picture (now gone until I get a new one in October). Then we drove all the way to the south end of Canyonlands NP to see the convergence near the Needles. We'd have to run Elephant hill. Saw a picture in Wells' book with a stock ZJ or XJ doing it. Figured I'd be fine. Got to the first left and found a 2 foot undercut ledge and a practically impossible second option around it. I stacked some rocks and tried to make myself a line. I fought to get up that SOB for what felt like an eternity(but was probly more like an hour), damn near rolled the Jeep, got freaked out and had to back down the rest. It was pretty terrifying. Oh and before that we did the Colorado River overlook in Canyon Lands down there too.
Went into Arches the next day and ran that long Tower Arch trail and did some sight seeing. Didn't hit any more trails with the Jeep, my pressure line to my tranny on the radiator side is pissing pretty good, and I had to fix a flat and the starter started giving me problems I kept having to get the mallet out to tap it to turn over... Decided we'd stick around town the last day we were there.
It was pretty sweet.
So all in all;
Fins n' Things
Porpcupine Rim
Eye of the whale/Tower Arch ran from North to South
Tried Hell's Revenge
Tried Elephant Hill
Top of the World
Colorado River Overlook
Weird, seemed like a lot more. I'm itching to get some stuff done to the Jeep and get back there in October.
I want to do White Rim soo bad..
