Five things that make your junk, junk.

crushed bumper cap
sagging tire carrier
rear diff leak
exhaust mounts breaking
rear main leaking under high load and heat.

Headliner
Steering box leak
week power steering pump
small exhaust leak
chipped D30 ring gear

nobody likes to ride in it
rattling squeeking and creaking noises that come and go
mud got up under the carpet through a hole in the floor, smelled like cheese for a while
shattered corner of winshield, cant fix that until i fix the dent in the edge of the roof
rear view mirror randomly falls off, probably from the busted windshield

New list

Cracked to hell exhaust.
Ac blower motor only works when it wants to.
Always leans to the right.
Loose front bumper.
Slowly dieing ac compressor.

No, it's bad that you couldn't just list out five things, like:

1. My old AW-4 worked great but I cracked the housing. Scored a new pan, though.
2. My primary concern with the paint is simply not letting things oxidize any farther.
3. I never fixed any of the wiring.
4. I welder'd up the exhaust myself.
5. I still need to throw away the doors, but at least they're close enough to the fence that the neighbor can't see the across the fence.

It leaks, it rattles, its loud, its dirty and sometimes it smells funny. But it runs straight down the interstate at 70 with the cruise on.

On my XJ:

Problem: Tail pipe rattles against the ZJ skid.
Fix: A local shop will install a Dynomax Super Turbo and custom tailpipe for $100.

Problem: Rear bumper is dented.
Fix: A replacement stock bumper is something like $85 from Quadratec.

Problem: Tires are somewhat cracked and nearly out of tread.
Fix: New tires, when I figure out what I want.

Problem: Rear springs are sagging ass!
Fix: Building a bastard pack, maybe as early as this weekend.

Problem: Front end vibes.
Fix: Not sure if I want to try and alignment first or getting the driveshaft balanced.

Dash creaks

Gangster lean on my side

Front axle leaks

Ball joints/ukoints squeak

It vibes at 65

Five things I pledge to fix this winter to make my rig non-junky:

Heater core (leaking),

headliner (none since the through the roof cage),

stereo (hello, who owns a tape deck anymore?)

underhood wiring (can you say Renix rat's nest?)

center console (need to build a new one)

I spend all my time on hard parts, and let this seemingly little stuff go.

Eventually, it drives you nuts.......and your wife won't get in the Jeep anymore.

So has Crash fixed this stuff yet?

Sheesh, that dude is ancient history.

Last I heard, he'd cut up his XJ into pieces, piled it into the bed of an old Ford truck, ironed-up his best pair of Wranglers and took off somewhere south looking to take up animal husbandry........ :dunno:

Oh, and to keep on topic........ What makes my junk, junk?

Chrome bolts on the diff covers.

:shhh:

1) Dash gages work when the want to, not when I want them to.
2) Rear drivers side pops when turning right.
3) Stumbles and bucks at around 2700 RPM
4) Belt tensioner broke.
5) A/C compressor seized up.

I will stop there, I could keep going for awhile, and I havent even lifted and wheeled it yet.

"Bring out your dead!" :conceited

I'm not usually one to log on and beotch about my junk, but I'm in that kinda mood:

1) 3" of standing water on the floorboards
2) AMC tire carrier that doesn't like to open w/out pulling my shoulder out
of joint
3) roof rack bolted through the roof
4) no radio thanx to some meth-head "needing" it more than me
5) turn signals don't cancel, horn doesn't blow, and wipers are hit-or-miss
thanks to a fully functional steering column being shipped using a
less than stellar shipping company.

Why my junk is junk...

1) Dash lights don't work at all
2) Radio is ghetto, won't go above volume lvl 33 on the head unit before it starts cutting in and out. I didn't install this aftermarket pos btw.
3) Idles rough for the first minute or so. lol makes it sound like it has a nasty cam.
4) Sun roof works but the left and right sides open at different rates so I just leave it shut.
5) Hatch has a nice dent on the corner of it. I didn't do it but whatever.

Oh, and I can take it out, wheel it within an inch of it's life for 6 hours with 2 other friends, and then turn around, and not less than 48 hours later, drive it for 8 hours all the way home and not have a single worry about it stranding me on the side of the road. Suck it Toyota/Honda/(insert any other vehicle here). :) Very impressed with my Jeep.

Hm.....guess I'm down to 3 now. Fixed the dash lights and the radio all in one fell swoop. Whoever wired the radio to the stock harness needs to be shot. Surprised my Jeep hadn't spontaneously combusted yet. Guess I'll have to look for 2 more things to add to my list.

I've still got more if you need to borrow some:wave1:

1) Body damage and rust where paint is chipped off from trees/rocks
2) Suspension creaks and pops constantly
3) Geared too low and needs to shift down to 3rd going up almost every hill
4) Headliner starting to sag in random spots
5) Exhaust drones at cruising speed and makes it hard to hold a conversation

The Factory Service Manual...it uses the term "Amperage"-whatever that means. Going through it, makes me think that whatever Jeremy from "Top Gear" said about Buick Century can be said about any Chrysler product:

"Designed by morons and put together by idiots"

Boris

P.S. "Amperage"...Really....?
