Clean Fender Trim Job...

Im gonna trim up the fenders on my Jeep and would like to get some help from someone who has done this AND still made it look nice after they were done. My Jeep's an 01, still has decent paint and I like the way it looks and would like to keep it that way for as long as possible.

I'm thinking of using an angle grinder with a cutoff wheel or possibly a dremmel. I've seen a few threads where people have used a dremmel with good results (obviously it would take a little longer...but Im willing to make that sacrifice for a clean job).

Anyone wanna help?

Thanks
Mike

i used a die grinder with a wheel, not as slow as a dremel, but almost as much control. also not using like 100 wheels is a plus.

6 TPI Sawzall blades!! lol kidding. I say Air saw, though it would take longer, just use a finer tooth blade. Clean cut and lots of control.

Air saw.....
Ding!!! What I used works perfect. Air saw cut right through it.

Back when I had fenders, mine were trimmed and I used door molding around the edge

I used a 4.5" grinder with a cut off wheel and the heat from that blistered the paint back a 1/4" in some places. Next time Ill use an air saw or Jig saw with a fine tooth blade.

Thats what i was thinking would happen. Im also looking to do this to my fenders but cant bring myself to use a angle grinder. What results will i get using a sawsall?

The first time I used the reinforced cut off wheels on my dremel took about 6 wheels for both front fenders and looked good. Use some of the blues painter tape around your work area to keep the fender clean.

You know where I'm at if you need a hand.

I used a die grinder and cutting wheels. Used blue painters tape over the area to be cut, draw the cut line with a Sharpie and follow it. When your cut is complete put a flapper wheel on the die grinder and sand the edge, remove the burrs. Don't remove the tape until you have hit the edge with some spray paint..helps to prevent rust.
I re-used my stock flairs so I also drilled some holes to locate the flair retainer in the higher position.

First step figure out how much your going to cut.

Taped up ready to cut.

Flair in new raise position.

Complete

The whole process took just under 2 hours.
On a side note don't mess with the fender liner (inner fender) just take it out before starting.

good stuff! ill have to do this

It seems like an air saw is the way to go...wish I had one! I've got a jigsaw though. I'll pick up some metal cutting blades for it and use that.
