Driver's Side Sensor Under Manifold, What?

OK, a search using "knock sensor" tells me that it is a pretty worthless sensor and the fact that my XJ was running fine with it hanging loose and ratty looking means I'm just going to leave it alone. Thanks for the heads-up what it was.

Driver's Side Sensor Under Manifold, What?

Was that an optional sensor on the '92 model year? I didn't have a check engine light and there doesn't appear to be a place for the wire to plug-in. Is it typically in the exh manifold? It looks like it's been burned/dead-ended for awhile.

Driver's Side Sensor Under Manifold, What?

Hello friends, while changing out the head gasket on my son's '92 XJ (4.0L, AW4) I noticed a sensor on the engine block about center under where the intake/exhaust manifolds bolt up. The wires are fried/melted and it doesn't lead anywhere, there does not appear to be a place it could connect to...

    Manastash/Naches Washouts

I just traded a couple e-mails with my Ranger contact at the Cle Elum office, it looks like the trail system up there is all but inaccessible as of right now. Manastash Rd. is washed out, the road at Tamarak (leading to barber Springs) is blocked off due to unsafe washouts. Not sure about access...

    Picture of my Jeep

That's a good looking ride, man. Welcome. I'd add some rocker protection, other than that it looks great.

    Advice for the Trail

You know it, Baby! Look, the sweatpants logic is infallible. Warmer than shorts, comfortable enough to climb into the sleeping bag wearing them, easy enough to slip off if they get filthy falling in the dirt while staggering around the campfire. At that point you're too numb to be cold, so...

    Advice for the Trail

That's funny, I saw that too. Up close, with a hacksaw and file in my hand. :D Great thread, all of the really important stuff has been mentioned. And go easy on Michael, guys. He is not only a very accomplished wheeler, he's a great guy both on and off the trail. Not to mention that he's...

    need some input on lockers

I'd go ARB. More money up-front, but selectable in at least the front diff is essential IMO. Rocks, snow, even tight switchbacks in the muddy woods, it's night and day being able to unlock for maneuverability and then lock back in for traction. I had OX's in the old XJ, very tough to get them...

    Your Ideal XJ

Great topic. I had what I considered a near-perfect XJ build before I destroyed it. I really like the '91-'95 era, 4.0L HO AW4. I liked my 242 for the versatility, I understand the slight strength/aftermarket advantages of the 231. A swapped XJ D44 in the rear and upgraded shaft D30 in front...

    My first non XJ Jeep.

Looks like a decent foundation. A winch and some rock sliders / tree pivot points would be the first things on my list if I'd inherited that rig.

Incompetent i am! Where to have brake lines flared?

You just answered your own question. Single flared lines don't seal as well, they also are prone to cracking out at the edges resulting in leaks that you can't just tighten to seal up. I'd get 'em double-flared for safety and peace of mind.

    My Jeep was stolen!

Sorry to hear this, Scott. I will keep my eyes open for it, hoping for a quick recovery for you.

    Mark your calenders

Hopefully. My main club does a Manastash trip right around that time every year, but if I can put at least weekend between the two and don't have a lockdown event courtesy of the wife like last year, then I'm in.

    Muffler

The Dynomax I put on mine only lasted about three years before rusting out and suddenly sounding like a coffee can with a half-dozen washers in it. It was one of the least expensive aftermarket mufflers at the time, I suppose you get what you pay for.

Welcome to my world for last year's NWF. :(
