The "what can we do better thread"

The differences in raffle items, numbers of attendees, the economy and a ton of other factors would make it pretty hard to do.

We aren't modeling climate change here, just the relative strengths and weaknesses of different approaches.

Of course, getting all that data together shouldn't be that hard. NAXJA keeps record of all that right?

Yes they do, and even more so now a days under the current BOD. They can provide records of funds if asked. John is on top of it.

I'm sorry but to me it doesn't matter what the bod decides to do with the tickets. If I want to win stuff at the raffle, I buy tickets. It's as easy as that. Your never gonna make everybody happy but all you can do is do what is gonna be the best interest of the club and that is the job of the bod.

I think everything went very well this weekend. It was one of the smoothest running events I can remember. Very good job to the bod and all the helpers. Can't wait till next year.

$5 ticket isn't a new idea.

In Moab, they charged $5/ticket, or 40 tickets for $100. I bought $200 in Moab. I won a back pack and battery ends.

In Moab, there was a couple people that won more than once or twice but nowhere near the frequency we had at winterfest.

My logic is fewer tickets can be mixed more thoroughly, thus dividing the winners more.

Having the tumbler will again help with mixing the tickets, not to mention make us look super official.

I will continue to buy $100+ in tickets, because I know even if I win nothing, the chapter still wins.

I bought $35 and made out well. I spent $40 last year and won a fire extinguisher. I am in favor of less tickets but not in favor of our simpler minded non registering members buying less.

I think the event went smooth as silk. Ben and Suzi struck gold with those flags. Everyone seemed to be pretty well right on time for the drivers meetings. The office opening early for us was nice as well. As always there are gonna be complaints but this year, I have none. One thing you could improve, just so we don't have to hear Adam complain is to make the cut off at 11:59pm the day registration closes.

Was wondering if NAXJA had developed standard operation procedures (SOP) for things like running a raffle, running an event, running a trail ride, giving the drivers meeting, and so on, and so on...

Not sure how much each chapter, re-invents the wheel, for each event they run. As an example, my club had to start from scratch, for the annual meeting/trail run my club put on. We made a profit for ourselves of only $300 or $400 I think. People had fun, we learned a lot. Never ran anything that big again.

A lot of work behind the scenes goes on. For those that don't know, you have overall stuff for the whole event. Then each sub-event, registration, tech, drivers meetings, pre-event setup, finding raffle prizes, each trail run, each meal you are offering, t-shirts, other swag. And you often always have the same core group running things. Usually, because no body else is stepping up saying, I'll do something. Meetings, emails, phone calls, running around, finding vendors.

Much about putting on an event is no fun.

Cst and est mainly, but yes, it should be announced as 11:59 EST 2/3/15 or whatever. I'm sure the BOD guys are smart enough that they don't have to be told this though.

Yes, NAXJA has Standard Operating Procedures.

Re: Re: The "what can we do better thread"

Which is both EST and CST, right. In any case, always put the timezone when announcing stuff like that. Is that general enough?

I was thinking NAXJA as a whole anyway.

Keith, who do you think you are? You have never been to one of our events, and you didn't even stay for the entire event this year, much less the raffle that you think you can improve on. You are not a celebrity because you won that Jeep, it's usually a good idea to stand back and watch things before you step in and tell us that we aren't doing it the right way.

uggg. this is making my head hurt. i thought the raffle went pretty darn good. WF10 i think it was, there was a ticket drawn for every dang hat, sticker, tshirt, and small item on the table. it took like 14hrs to get the raffle over with. adding the tumbler will make it even better. IMO keep the tickets how they are,if you need help tearing the tickets apart yell over my way I'll lend a hand.

as for CB's I'll go by what ever is in the requirements and not bitch about it. if ya stick with Cb's fine if ya switch to FRS fine too.

time? we're really debating time... come on guys.

i understand the point of this thread is asking what could be better, but seriously some complainants are a little ridiculous.

Rew'badlands time'Ster

Why would we want pacific standard time? It should be the time zone that the mwc is located in.

Some of your states can't even decide which time zone that is. Just sayin' :rof:

I think you need a benevolent dictator so all this bickerin' and arguin' about who killed who doesn't happen.

Just kidding, I sadly was not there so I will not pass judgement on how the event was or was not run.
