What's brewing?

I use PBW cleaner in my better bottles and have never touched the inside of one to clean it.

all grain + mr beer.....

that's a new one....

not to say it isn't possible, just doubtful the brewer had much of a clue.

jeff, i don't have a problem with denny, i could never understand the cult following he got for doing essentially nothing. no innovation, no experimentation, nothing outstanding. None that i could see during the 10 years i've known of the guy

just a hippy with a cooler, a kettle and a banjo burner. Good guy to be sure, and he's acheieved success in the hobby....i mean hell, he has a YEAST strain named after him.

that's the american dream right there.

Took donations of honey today. The Mexican grocery down the street had prickly pear in the produce section...so I be making mead tomorrow.

jeff....

forgot the measurement of the flame tip to bottom of the kettle.

I'll get that...

Jeez, just what I need to see while I'm stuck at my day job.........

How do you like those brass jet burners? Can you throttle them back, or do they really work well at a full bore output?

I have very good throttle control, better than propane.

the boil burner proved to be TOO powerful. When I idled back to dial in a nice controleed rolling boil, the flames would go yellow....

so what i did was to close off (allen set screw) two pairs of opposing tips...

you know these things work in pair right? they each provide turbulence for the other.

so my boil burner has become a 19 tip!

Unless I'm missing something, the difference between a natural gas and an LP version of that burner is only the machined brass jets, specifically, the orifice in the base.

Supposedly, the Bayou Classic outlet/depot carries replacement brass jets for these things, as well as threaded plugs to do just what you did with the allen set screw.

Turbulence in pairs? The planar pairs or the pairs at 90 degrees?

I'd heard that these burners were not really controllable, that they'd really only work well under a full bore pressure. These burners should be more efficient that the standard turkey fryer burner, or the banjo burners, and I shouldn't have to worry about an air venturi either (it's part of the machined brass.) Maybe I do need to consider using a 10 jet burner. I sure don't need to go to a 19 or 23 jet.

Only difference....orifice size.

Propane is usually delivered at much higher pressures

Natural gas lower, flowing through a bigger port .....when i changed fuel type, i changed burner tupe too, so i suppose i am making an apples/oranges comparison.

I believe i have more control with my present set up.

My previous propane burners worked well at wide open....any less and they wouldn't burn clean. Sooty mothers they were

Bottom of the pot tells the story

Mine stay clean, even when i'm idled back doing a step at 20-percent

The major thing is, being able to bring a run off up to a boil quick!

Better hot break, less dms production

Impinged jet burner design positions two or more jet tips so that its primary combustion areas combine to induce a secondary combution that completes the ignition of any remaining source fuel, increasing efficiency and btu. Good for me, good for you, good for america

Dagnabit, BJ, ya'll ain't helpin' out here! I might have to go to these brass jet burners after all.

The wrinkle with a turkey fryer or banjo burner is that you might have to change the air shutter as you throttle back or open it up. My banjo burner is sold by Bayou Classic as an SG14, and does exhibit the soot problem at lower heats. Only about 6" in diameter, but definitely more efficient than the usual turkey fryer burner.

Now I see what you mean by working in pairs. They aren't paired at the base, but by an intersecting jet (disrupts the thin gas jet inside the venturi'ed air around it. Never thought about that aspect.

You guys are talking way above my pay grade! LOL

Actually, those burners aren't that expensive.... Bayou Classic Depot has the 23 jet burners for $37, and replacement jets for $1.50.

Get the vid?

Do you have a way to post?

See?

Awesome control

Better than most of those propane burners.

There is too much spobi on brewing forums, its ridiculous

Probably why i didnt last long

Got it late last night. I'll figure out how to post it up tonight.

Quite impressive, I was under the impression that you wouldn't get anywhere near that amount of control. Time to double-clutch and change gears again.

i was going to pulse the flame to " . .- - -- . " but i wasn't sure how good your morse was.....
