since its springtime and im guessing some people will begin to be considering removing their doors for the first time, ive compiled a quick list of how-to's that ive looked at. i personally havent done mine quite yet but i figured this list would be helpful for when people search.

myXJ.net's (pre 97?): http://www.myxj.net/tech/doorless/

HeavyMetal's (pre 97): http://heavymetalxj.wordpress.com/2007/08/03/6/

CanMan's (pre 97): http://naxja.org/forum/showthread.php?t=921410

another JeepForum (97+): http://www.jeepforum.com/forum/showthread.php?t=444398&highlight=doorless

if someone has other links, post them and ill edit them in

for those who want to flame the removal of doors (it'll fold like a taco!) do it somewhere else:dunce:

I just did this, and I am had a hell of a time putting them back on. How have people gotten the bushing thing out? what could make it easier to do?

(please delete if I will mess up the thread)

No, that was how he cleaned it after he got the bushing out. I was asking how do you get the bushing thing out

sorry for the resurrection, but finally heres my answer to this--^
this was on the pre-97 hinges btw. i took a thin flat head screwdriver and hammered it against the bushings inside the hinges to kind of break them and loosen them up. then i put a drill bit on my dremel, placed it into the hinge and held the dremel loosely, allowing the bit to spin around inside the hinge for a few seconds. the bushing came out in one piece, slightly mangled, but whole. this method literally took me a few seconds for each bushing with no complications

Looking back on my posts I can now laugh, I can take all of my doors off in less then 3 mins. To get the bushing out I just drilled with a 1/4" bit and they slid up the bit and right off.

Slid a T-30(or whatever fits) into the 1/4" wrench and loosen that way because getting a ratchet in there pretty tuff and first. I had to use one hand to hold the wrench steady and a breaker bar in the other. Once you get them out a bit you should be able to use a ratchet. It helps to support the weight of the door, I did it with my leg while I sat on my sliders, a friend or a jack could really help.

i was just looking at my hinges, i have an 86, could it be possible that my passenger side hinges AREN'T flipped? I have noticed that 1st gen models (84-86) are built a little more complicated than later models, maybe AMC didn't cheap out and use the same hinges per side? In any case, is cutting and hoping for the best the only way to tell for sure? if no one can answer, i'll post up my findings tomorow.

How do you keep the door from buzzing (as if it were open) when the door is off?

you could just pull the buzzer but then you'd still have the overhead lights yelling at you. better to interrupt the jamb switch wire, either by pulling out the switch, installing a traditional switch in-line, or doing what I did and running the wire through the door harness so that when the door is off the circuit is open

for the guys that unbolted the doors with pre 97 hinges, did you have any problems aligning the hinge correctly when you bolted them back on? i heard that its a pain in the ars to align the hinges back to factory because of the shims.

yes and no. like said above, id pay attention to how the shim is originally sitting for each door hinge. it shouldnt be too hard since they will be outlined in dirt lol. if you completely mix them up and such like i did the first time, its not very hard to play around with them to get the doors to close perfectly. it took me seriously 10 minutes messing with the shims to get each door to seal perfect as factory. i just loosened the hinge bolts and allowed the shim to be seated loosely, moved it around a little, then tightened the bolts back up and closed the door......basically guess and check method
