Here's what I've been up to the last couple of weeks.
I just can't leave well enough alone...as it sits right now, I'm at 20 inches of travel. Still need to mock up the shock mounts on the trailing arms
and relocate the bumps, then I can take it all back apart and finish welding everything, and paint it all.

Full Droop

Thanks Ryno! This has been one of the only times, I've ever figured out the geometry on paper first, and actually had it go according to plan. It was a real challenge to get the pinion angle to follow the CV driveshaft throughout the travel. I'm probably still going to have about 3 1/2" of plunge on the driveshaft, but it was the best compromise I could come up with that would fit in there.

I've got some 2 1/2"x14 King coil overs to mount off the trailing arms, so I can use all that travel.

I can't wait to hit the dirt with it:D

The trailing arms don't have the shock mounts on them yet. I'm going to make some plates that overlap the sides and mount the shocks on top of the arms. I have delrin bushings on the front pivots so the arms can't twist (much).

I dont know if you did coilovers and triples that tied into an engine cage I think you could make a front that would do just fine. Plus how many linked trucks/suvs have the same travel front and rear? Not too many.

It will still be 4wd....I've got a brand new atlas t-case in there:D. The front gets a little over 12 inches right now, although it's barely bent. The front suspension feels pretty good, it was the back that was lacking. I'm sure once I get the back done, it'll be the front that sucks, but I'm doing one step at a time. I'll change the torque converter before I do the front, its got way too low of a stall speed. In low range, even with an auto trans, it take both feet on the brakes to keep it from moving.

TCS built mine and loosened it up for that same reason. With 5.13s in low range it is not hard to hold now.

I want to say about $300 at the most is the going rate, but that is with a lock up converter. It may be cheaper depending on what tranny you are running. Mine got brazed fins and was loosened up a little. Call Rusty at TCS he is in the Havasu shop. He will set you up for what you need. I wouldn't go with too much stall because it will heat up the tranny on the trail.

Went for a quick shake down run yesterday, out in DHS. All I can say is WOW :D

Went on a road a little less than a mile long, 2 foot deep whoops, about 6 to 8 feet apart, at around 50mph. The nose stayed up on the tops of the whoops, and the rear tires felt like they never left the dirt. Felt really smooth.

Adjusting the bypasses will only make it better, but I don't see the D30 living for much longer.

Sorry, no pics or vid...it was a last minute trip.

any pics of how the DS sits in there at full compression? reason i ask is i wonder with the abuse you guys dish out on these things if there is a way to cross brace between the upper link mounts on inside of frame rail so make em a lil more rigid, supported?....

just curious

Loose_Nuts_Enterprises
August 12th, 2010, 12:25
The driveshaft is just about straight at full compression. My "frame rails" are super reinforced on the insides...my front control arm mounts, trans crossmember, and rear upper control arm mounts are all tied into this. I did my reinforcements long before any of the aftermarket stiffeners were available, so I opted to do the inside of the frame rails to handle the raised belly trans mount.

I don't think I have any pics like you're looking for.

Thanks for the props.
