This is a D44 right?

I'm sorry, I've never torn into an axle before so I'm not sure that I'm looking at. I got it a while back out of an Isuzu Rodeo V6. 1993 I think. And I remember reading somewhere it should have a LSD in it, and as far as I can tell it doesnt. It as a D44 right? I'll run back out to the garage in a few and get the numbers off the diff cover if that will halp.

Tried pulling at all apart tonight, but the two bolts on the caliper brackets wont come off with hand tools. Any reason they might be reverse threaded? I'll take it to work friday and hit it with an air gun.

I needed the rotors tonight (which I wont be getting off now) for school tomorrow so I can start writing the mastercam program to make some wheel spacer/adapters.

Looks like a Dana 44 w/ABS (note the "tone ring teeth" around the ring gear mount.)

If you can get me a BoM number, I may be able to tell you more. It should be a six-digit number starting with "60" or "61", and a one- or two-digit suffix. It should be stamped into an axle tube near the centre section. I don't guarantee anything, but I've got most of the BoM numbers around here in a MASTER Excel sheet...

For the disc brake screws, I can't think of any reason why they'd be a left-hand thread, but I've been wrong before... Do be careful when you hit them with the buzz wrench - it's a bigger pain if you break them off. I've gone into detail on removing stuck screws and plugs on here before - and fairly recently - so try a little search and see if you can't find out where I did it (I've gone into this enough that I really don't feel like doing it right now...)

I just read your post after I ran out for the numbers. I'm not sure I got what you wanted.

On the cover-
Dana
45702
231 2
REV B
04 15 92

And on the pumpkin casting on either side-
44801 IC
2307

Sorry - none of those are BoM numbers, so there's not much I can do with them. Numbers on the cover are usually just for the cover, so they aren't worth much.

You should find the BoM stamped into either the centre section on one of the "wings," or (more likely) on the tube near the centre section. Note the firmat given previously - so far as I've seen, all Dana BoM number have started with a "60" or "61."

Thus the "so far as I've seen." I'm going off of literature currently available from Dana - and all the numbers in there are "60" or "61."

However, the service manuals there seem to have been produced in the late 1960's and early 1970's (going by the style of the manual,) so I'm trying to open a line of communication with them anyhow. More information as I get it, not to worry...

My guess would be an Isuzu or Honda D44. I was just reading about them... I can not remember where but they had ABS 44 with 6 lugs and disk brakes.

Here is a link that I stumbled onto a while back from the Dana/Spice Corp website. It is basiclly the mother load of Dana Info.

Article in the latest JP Mag.

It is an Isuzu D44, no LSD - just like the one under my rig (thanks DJ!)... as for the caliper bolts, they are NOT reverse threaded, just a bit rusty - soak the hell out of them with PB Blaster, get a breaker bar, secure the axle, and they will eventually come out...
