View Full Version : Badlands Nov. 15

Alright, we're gettin' a group to go and run on Sat. Come and run and be joyful. Be forewarned though, if you are running 35's or larger you will be forced to run Purgatory. If you don't, you will face constant ridicule for being the poser that you are (at the badlands and on the forums). There will be quite the variety of vehicles going, so this isn't a quarry only run. See you in 2 weeks.

Sean

edit: if you're already thinking up some excuse to not run purgarollie, don't show.

Count me in. I haven't checked out Purgatory yet- would it be do-able with 33s and without major body damage? Seems every time I'm at the Badlands, I only see other XJers at the end of the day, or I'm riding my quad. Be great to meet and run some trails with some of you guys:)

two weeks to get ready?

damn, maybe I can pull up to camp, and have you guys help me get my rig ready....

gotta get the fuel cell hooked up, and the tube work going.....

sean, should I place an order with one of our favorite vendors so I have tme to get my parts?

wanna warm up on that short rock crawl to the ledge that likes to claim u-joints?

I wanna see that rig take on that ledge, shouldn't be a problem at all.

Well, the tree that used to take out windows is gone, and the off camber ledgy thing has been totally wiped out. Of course, they've made it one hell of a bitch to finish the first half of it. It's quite fun.

I'm gonna have to say no to the guy running 33's. Of course, you could be one hell of a driver and be able to make it, but until we can see you in action I'd prefer not to get your hopes up. There's plenty of other rockyesque trails to play on right there too.

I was planning a trip to Attica on T-giving weekend due to the fact that the wife and I are alone that weekend. Some cats I have wheeled with from Great Lakes Jeep Thing are going.
This sounds like more fun, though, and I can't do both.
Looks pretty good for me to be there.

I guess we'll just hafta steer clear of the gravel pit then.

bgcntry72
November 4th, 2003, 06:17
I am not taking a bullet for the guys, just some Jeeps to hit the trail with.
Besides, until I get a Rubi and throw 4.56s in it and strap on some 37" MTRs on beadlocks, they won't return my calls.
Gravel pit is for sand gnats, plus we will be about 2 weeks early.
I prefer the quarry, or Orange.
Yup, with 'just' 31's. :smoker:
Look forward to seeing you all real soon.
Hasta.

I'm really pushing to get my junk done, changed my header last night, steering column in, mounted my high lift, took my beadlock rings to be powder coated (safety yellow, how sexxxxxy) and now it's just mounting front shocks, driveshafts and other little things, I'll have it done by this weekend hopefully, however Ang and I have seperated and it's all in 'her' garage, so I'm kinda limited. :(

JJ, can I hang with you???

BTW, who's going to be there friday night and who's stayin sunday????????? If I go, I'd like to wheel on Sunday too for a while, that is if I don't break. I'll prob be in the driveway of the badlands sleepin in the bus by midnight, unless there's gonna be some drinkin to be done in town.

Are you refering to the Badlands campground? I was thinking about camping there Fri and/or Sat night, since I need to use up the gas in the motorhome before I store it. Camping would also make the after-wheeling drinking beer part of the experience easier and safer  I don't care about hook-ups, as long as they're open.

Gentlemen ... I'm very new to NAXJA ... just joined a few days ago... not even sure if I've been "accepted"! I live about 30 minutes south of Badlands so I'll come up and play ... and watch you all do Purgatory. I was up there last weekend for the first time and had a blast ...

For those who have not been there before, www.badlandsoffroad.com has very good directions to the park. When you make the left turn at the stop sign on Sycamore St, look for the grain pile on your right (covered with tarp) ... the entrance is just past it on your right. The sign is kinda small ... but the grain pile ain't ...

I drive a '94 Dk. Green two door ... sitting on 32's with trimmed fenderwells and roughly 4.5-5" of lift ... open diffs and a high milage motor.

I'll look for y'all and introduce myself ...

I will bring the woman, but she won't be having girl talk with Beez, nor will she be 'warming up' in the Rev's Rectory. We are staying at the Attica Inn instead of the Apple Inn. The B and B is a little quiet for the kind of weekend I have planned. If you want to tip one, and the black XJ is there, I am listed under 'Clark'.

The Attica Inn has a special for 20% off for Badlands customers.
Instead, we took use of an internet coupon that gives the second night for half price after paying full for first night.
I got 2 nights for about $140.

I plan on running Orange, and you are with me. I am only lifted 4", with 31s and locked in the rear. It is, for the most part, a body damage trail, but if I can finesse it in my '99, you can make it work. If you rarely get out wheeling, you would regret doing anything less, I promise. I will lend a hand and help you through the metal-reshaping areas.
On a side note, went to adjust my BOEs with the vise, and broke a shock bolt in the frame, at 8 p.m.
2 wasy outs and a helicoil later, all is well, and I am ready to abuse my rig once again.

Well, with that setup, you should be able to handle Orange, if you have some wheeling experience. Orange is a tight trail that can provide some damage, if you are not careful. Of course trail conditions always make a difference. The one time I ran Orange, was at Winterfest last year, and the ground was frozen with snow cover.

I just wish I had been there for the WWF show in front of the bar Friday. I look forward to seeing you all again, hopefully sooner rather than later. The puzzling one is the (guy?) with the blonde wig, passed out on my bed clutching a Nalgene bottle.
I will post them after I get my tetanus shot.
Curious.

I raised a glass to all of you last night during the games.

May 8th is doomsday. :D I've been trying to get as much done as possible to my XJ before then, othwise I'll have to get approval from the boss. (she's an accountant which means limited jeep funds)

Only tore off a flare on the rear of the Jeep, and added some scratches. :D
Someone tried to pee on my rig, and I returned the favor by peeing on the floormat of their tow rig.
On the other hand, my body returned with 4 seperate abrasions, 2 bruises from being pinched, a cigarette burn that was anything but accidental, and another 2 bruises with teeth marks in them.
Damn, I love this club.

I will move all pics from camera to PC later today. I may need some help with hosting and the like. Or maybe I will just call Time/Warner and find out how to access my server space. I have a strong desire to post a pic of Rev Smiley and his topless rainbow warrior. (not lowered, blown, and laughing)

Damn.. looks like we missed out on all the fun!

BG... the Traction Aiding Liquid you added to the wall, well.. it didn't help me out any. I tried a few times after you guys left to get up that rock. My ears are still ringing from my fiancee yelling at me, I mean asking me to stop.
Perhaps I should add a locker to my christmas list.

I would offer the friendly advice to get a locker right away. If you have an 8.25 rear with 29 splines, I may have a NoSlip coming available around Christmas. You do OK without a locker, and that is the proper way to learn. With a locker, you would be amazed at what you can do. You are learning to wheel the right way, at stock height and with open diffs. I think you are gonna be just fine.

Instead of a hotel next time, lets just get 5 of us to pitch in $50 each and buy one 'o them thar trailers in the park right before the Badlands. :D

My 'Traction Aiding Fluid' only works when I am present to oversee the climbing operation and add supervisory advice to the whole anti-gravity thing.

Countdown to Winterfest. :D :D :D :D :D

I do have the 8.25 with 29 spline..let me know on that locker. Are you up-grading?
