oh well, i got the job but i dont think im going to take it, anytime someone has to sell me the job instead of me selling me talents for the job makes me nervous. straight comission and he had some fuzzy math going on, the search continues, looks like some flip flop fab business cards are getting made tonight that seems to be the only work anyone is interested in these days

Not this weekend but Today. Got off work early and went up to oak hollow lake (Tim, I know you know what I'm talking about) and took some pics....

Wow that brings back memories! It's been easily a couple of years since i've driven through good ole HP. Last time I went through I couldn't believe how much it changed since 06.

Hopefully in the next month or so I'll have an axle to haul up to my old mans, so I'll have the Jeep in the area. We'll have to get up or something while i'm up that way.

Since this is the most active thread, I figure it can't hurt to post here.

Been going through the motions to get my CEL to go away in my 97 XJ.

Replaced Upstream 02, Crank position sensor, checked plugs, distributor, etc... After installing the Crank position sensor it ran noticably better, and I really stopped worrying so much.

Today on my way home from work, the power would flicker, like dash lights and radio, and it would attempt to cut out, I cut off radio, and listened, couldn't hear anything out of the ordinary.

It then cuts off. I try to recrank, no power. Try again, fires right up and runs fine.

Fuel Pump? Fuel Filter? Help?

what code was it storing? that sounds more like an electrical/control issue than a fuel delivery issue, computer connections ok? everything grounded ok?

I am terrible with electrical work, on my last 97 I had alot of issues, replaced the PCM and never had an issue again. But I doubt this is that simple.

CEL keeps saying misfire cylinder 6, and downstream o2. My battery cables look like its time to replace them also, and I know my battery is too small (540 CCA) but autozone said its fine.

Also, when the jeep cut off, and I got it cranked back, the CEL went away, but the Trip odometer wasn't reset... Normally when I reset battery it resets the trip too, so I am a bit confused...

Where did you get the CPS? I know there was a problem with them in the past being faulty. Lenny had to get 2 or 3 at one time and eventually had to go to a dealer to get one of his customers jeeps to run right and not throw a code. Also coudl be your grounds. Are they clean? Expecialy the block ones.

Definitely sounds like a grounding/connection issue. They will cause crazy codes, crappy running, and cause you to pull your hair finding them...

Its a Bosch Crank Position Sensor I got at Advance Auto... Pricematched Rock Auto.

Thanks for the answers, Ill admit, I haven't achieved hair pulling, but I have been losing sleep. One of my buddies is much better with these things than I am, Ill get him to look it over. Any known problem areas I should investigate first?

This would also explain why one day i drove 145 miles before CEL came on, and the next day (after replacing CPK) it came on after 12 miles, both times after resetting PCM.

Yeah man, I would love to catch up and take a look at your jeep. Just let me know whenever you think your gonna be in town.

I'm not sure on the 97+ but on mine there is a grounding strap from the back of the block to the firewall. There is a ground near the coil and a ground over by the battery. Check those locataions first and clean them all if they are there is what I would do.
