Trail repair?

HELLOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO, hay is this thing on? Just checking in to see if we got a time or anything else..Yea i know i'm a smart A$$..But thats just me..

Hey carol
Don't stop doing what makes you happy, Hell take pics while you are at it..:D. But a video would work better around camp, know what i mean...:roflmao:

See you all later

I spoke with Kirk Shea from state parks today and he is interested in getting our help. He has to confer with his volunteer folks before we set things up. Everyone who participates will need to sign a volunteer agreement so you will be covered in the event of an injury. The daye is not final yet, it depends on the availability of the people who manage volunteers. I will post up when things are finalized. 2Stix, he was psyched about having a tractor to use

i'm down as well... if it doesn't conflict with other stuff i have goin on

Hey john are we not doing this? I'm going to Truckhaven this saturday.(29th)..But i won't bring shovels if the trail repair is off..I'll just go an play for the day..

sounds good john. just give me a heads up so i can get the trailer cleared. i use the trailer for alot of other stuff besides the tractor.

Looks like it won't be able to happen this weekend, however, I will be going out there with Kirk this Friday to look at the spots we want to work on. There are certain places he is ok with, like at the notches, but other areas he has to convince the other managers about working on. If anybody wants to participate in this I will be meeting him at his office which is on Hwy 78 at the west end of the valley at 9:00 AM. PM me if you are interested.

Sigh. Probably just as well it's not this wknd, as Just Runs will be out there playing around.

Now I have time to be (avoiding) getting some stuff done around the house. Which means I can maybe make the AAT run in Big Bear the following weekend, removing boulders from 2NO4.

And Scott, just remember... I'm lazy by nature, and I try to leave the "doing what makes me happy" to others.

Hey john i know we aren't doing this saturday, so you want to meet us for a day of fun? Meeting at the casino in the AM(9:30) for fuel then go play..Let me know

I met with Kirk from state parks today and we looked at the areas we want to work on. Basically we will need to start out with just doing some work at the notches. The folks who manage the area don't like to bite off too much at the start. They want to see that we do good work that benefits everyone, so that's where we will start. It looks like we might be able to do this in late Feb just in time for TDS. Everyone who participates will have to fill out some paperwork (release forms and such) so they will be covered in the case of any accident. What we will need:
Shovels
A water tank, 50-100 Ga.
A short water hose to connect the water tank to the pressure washer
Tractor ( I think 2stix has this covered)
Water, food etc

I will bring a gas powered pressure washer with low pressure nozzle to wet the dirt so it can be compacted in place. Does anyone have a good way to compact dirt?

if a small air compressor is available, that would also be good as the front tires on the tractor slowly leak.
as for compacting dirt. code is to fill 6 inches of moist dirt, then compact with what most call a "Wacker". but in this case im sure just smoothing it over with the tractor bucket would be suffice. driving over it packs it down pretty good. and no i do not have a roller compactor for the small tractor.

I just heard back from the State Parks guy and we are approved to do the trail maintenance after April 18th. That is when he will be available and he has to be there to oversee the work. What we will need is: A large (50-100 gallon) water tank that we can hook a short garden hose to (we need that too), Tractor (2 stix has that covered), shovels, hard rakes, heavy duty straps, and food and water. Please post up when you would be available and what you can bring and we will set a date based on what you post. Thanks

I can bring a couple straps, a shovel and a hard rake. Will we be need ing 4wd, or would my 2wd Ford make it through the areas we plan on working?

John I have two 50 gallon water bladders. Would we have some place that could fill them. Are you coordinating with someone from Ocotillo Wells SVRA? I'll have to check my calender for dates when I get home.
