**The official "this guys crazy for what he wants" on CL**

Someone needs to do a little research... And I don't maen read post from people who have never had a Dana 44a. :rof:

Think about the biggest motor in the heaviest jeep in that time.

I'm not saying it's a Dana 60, o but wait.... the ring and pinion are the same size as a 60.

The shafts are bigger then a 44.

Then only draw back is the aluminum center and a C clip axle. (keep in mind LOTS of people swap 8.8s That are C clip.)

Build a diff skid, maybe truss it.

So unless you have a 44 or 8.8 with a full case locker and Cromo shafts, or a Dana 60. I bet that "crappy aluminum 44" is stronger then your axle! :explosion

Having a weak point in the middle of your axle that supports everything else seams like a pretty big issue to me. What good is a bunch of strong components if the housing itself is going to fail. The only 44 equiped ZJ I ran across had the bearings howling like a wolf, which in my experience as a mechanic who has rebuilt quite a few difs, seems more common in axles with aluminum center sections. my guess is the aluminum changes too much due to temperature and torque, not allowing a constant preload on the bearings. So I'll stick to my heavy metal 8.25 with yukon gears, axle shafts and ARB.

I have a rolled over 01 Jeep Cherokee jk that has a nice long arm kit, heavy duty steering, sye kit and drive line, leather plus lots more. Im not sure if it has lockers or not but it does have heavy duty diff covers. It runs great and it just turned 100k. 4.0L engine with an auto trans. This was a very nice jeep before it was wrecked. Look specifically at the size. Considering that size? Ya, they are overpriced when new. I am looking at retreads for that reason. That picture looks like they are bald.

They made JK's in 01 that looked like XJs , wow!
That must have been smuggled out of Jeep's skunkworks. Looks like it didn't survive the high speed chase though.
ROFL!
