Quiet stainless steel exhaust?

Hey folks, my flowmaster has rusted out after a measly 6 years.

Who makes a quiet stainless system? Seems like everything stainless is loud.

Quiet is a relative term...

This is probably close to quiet, and stainless: https://www.amazon.com/Walker-21548-Quiet-Flow-Stainless-Assembly/dp/B001AGLAZ2/ref=asc_df_B001AGLAZ2/?tag=hyprod-20&linkCode=df0&hvadid=312430092407&hvpos=&hvnetw=g&hvrand=9761099399193732737&hvpone=&hvptwo=&hvqmt=&hvdev=t&hvdvcmdl=&hvlocint=&hvlocphy=9029600&hvtargid=pla-569089851826&psc=1&mcid=b289f4009b293aa8aa882eea3b89f2c4

Downside of that one is that a good rock will probably rip it open. Most of those type mufflers are made with pretty thin sheet metal.

It has been a few years, but I think what I am running is a Dynomax like this: https://www.summitracing.com/parts/wlk-17218?seid=srese1&gclid=CjwKCAiA3aeqBhBzEiwAxFiOBjD6-JVVJ4AEXb5Nxavym5ssbQ9dtfPrYVtSmmbJIY3Mz1gZqBcmVxoC-uYQAvD_BwE I don't regard it as loud, but a little old lady might not approve.

I can remember when 6 years would've been considered exceptional, but we move on & things change, to the point where afaik my XJ's all have their original exhausts (except the one which has had the cat surgically removed).

6 years from something that price is simply unacceptable - & there was me thinking they were a quality product.

Stainless is always a little louder (at least 'til it soots up), something to do with resonance I think, but the tone should be more noticeable than the volume.

My guess is that the bends are right, but the rear hanger may need to be cut off so you can use the hanger setup that involves an exhaust clamp.

Go look at your own rear hanger arrangement and I think you will see the difference.

Yeah I don't mind cutting off the extra hanger.

Hopefully identical other than that. I do already have a new aluminized one but I'd really like to not replace exhausts regularly...

Maybe I'll give 'er a go.

Good thread to check in on. I still have my original exhaust, which has has ubiquitous spot rust since forever. '98. I've worried about the need to replace the cat a couple of times over the last decade, but haven't yet. Am I right that the downstream O2 sensor would send a code if it was needed?

Those look good but it's got to be your weather killing it, I did a full custom exhaust 7yrs ago and it doesn't have any signs of rust!

Well I purchased the following:

Walker Exhaust Quiet-Flow Stainless Steel 21357
https://www.amazon.com/dp/B000C918CS

Northeastern Stainless Steel Tail Pipe Fits: 1996 - 1999 Jeep Cherokee
https://www.ebay.com/itm/193310104081

They both appear to NOT be stainless as both are magnetic.

Nice choice. I was going to recommend the Walker Quiet Flow muffler.

They are 409 stainless, which is magnetic. It is still stainless, but not as robust as something like 304 that you may be more accustomed with.

Well that's cool. I didnt know about that thanks!

@RCP I think it's the mag chloride they use in CO now. My blue XJ is completely white the day after a snow storm :(
