seriously. you guys certainly haven't made me any more motivated to give money by being complete ASSes (some, not all) to someone who just can't afford it.

That's not really the point. Probably everyone who has ever posted a tech question here has received advice that easily saved more than $30 in money that would otherwise have been wasted paying a mechanic who wouldn't have been able to diagnose a stubborn problem.

Besides, it's worth $30 a year just to be able to rag on Beezil. Yeah, you can do it for free, but if you're not a member it's easier for him to ignore you.

any way you look at it, $30 is a good deal for what you get here, I have never denied that. it's just a matter of priorities (food, rent, 4wd)

i still remember 2.5 years ago when my 4wd went out and I was thinking major problems and ready to call a mechanic, came on here and was told to check the vacuum lines. sure enough, they had popped off the diconnect housing. i didn't even know what the stupid thing did back then.

I have always been VERY appreciative of , and when it's possible I will show that appreciation monetarily.

Bullshit! "Everyone" is not arguing about BS that does not need to be argued. I agreed with him his reasoning was sound if "he cannot afford" it. No problem there.

My problem was his attitude that "it should be free" and I have given more than I received" type statements. If yer broke and cannot afford $30, no biggie. But do not make up excuses that you fee the www should be free. SOMEBODY must pay. In this case, it is US Members.

has no need or is here JUST TO GET MEMBERS. The members we have are here to run a club about wheeling and playing with MJs and XJs. Part of that is helping ALL who ask, member or not. If this wasn't so then it would be a CLOSED member only board. This thread really sucks and really make us look like asses!

Grow up, deal with it and get off this high and mighty, "if you an't a member you an't sheit" crap. We are here to help in these forums and conduct club business, it isn't ALL ABOUT THE F***ING internet boards.

I run a large car enthusiast forum similar to , however, it is an only internet club. Without members volunteering to pay a $30/year upgrade to their account (they get more storage space for their upgrade and some other perks), my site would no longer exist. It cannot make enough money from the banner ads that we run.

Our dedicated server costs $120/month.....and that's for the lowest package available. Running a site this large and active does require a lot of money.....and in the current internet advertising market, you cannot support it on advertising alone.

so that's $1440 a year, has about that many users, so my $1 a year guess is pretty close. (for internet services alone, I have already aknowledged non-internet expenses)

so when someone posts links to free FSM material do you check it out? Do you use Hotmail or Yahoo mail? Have you ever done an internet search for "free porn" (not sure if that's your thing)? The internet was practically built around free access. Look how big Napster got, and is legal to get for free.

Yes, someone has to pay, I wish it could be the advertising corporations, but as Intrepid XJ pointed out, that's not very possible. Nonetheless, if you have a free site, you have a free site, don't bitch and moan (for lack of better terminology) when people use your free site. If you want everyone to pay, then make everyone pay. Or leave it as is, but understand when someone simply can't afford it. People should be motivated to join and pay out of gratitude, not because someone bitched at them. This reminds me of a bad church.

LOL, I do NOT need to chill. I am discussing his reasons.... and I have (IMHO) been very fair to the " I cannot afford to" argument. I take issue with the "the www should be free", and I will continue to discuss that as I want.

We are discussing the "finer points". Personally, I could care less if he became a member, that is not my point.

I am chilled, I am fine with it. I think his "it should be free" crap is wrong.... he is trying to make a counter point. It is discussin, this is Non-Tech, so do not tell me to leave it alone. Period.

Somewhat off-topic, but how the hell you do that? I work full time (55 hrs a week) for a halfway decient wage and money's tight around my place. I have gas, insurance (auto and health), auto payment, phone, pg&e, smud, rent groceries, and a gym membership... not to mention the moneypit jeep... just wondering if you could give any pointers?

I work as a Bellman for a local hotel during the summer. I usually work 6 days a week for 11 hours a day. I make minimum wage, but I bust my ass to make tips, so I live off my tips and put some of the tip money in the bank, along with my regular pay.

Second, I LIVE ON CAMPUS!!! Saves a bunch of money. For $400 a month I get cable, interent, phone, washer/dryer, full kitchen and anything else a regular place would have. I clip coupons and buy the cheap stuff from the grocery store and cook for my fiancee and I, nightly. We dont go out and spend money on booze or going to movies or fancies dinenrs. We go out to dinner once a month.

As far as money during the school year, I worked hard in HS to earn a 4-year scholarship from Army ROTC. They pay for tuition, and I use my stipend for books and rent.

I havent relied on my parents for quite some time now.

And as for everyone that say lay of....go piss up a rope. Havent you ever ragged on someone just to give him a hard time? I guess sarcasm and jokes arent conveyed that well. I dont care if he joins or not, it is just something to razz him about.
