I bought my 97 2dr. with up-country suspension, 4.0, 5 sp, full electronics including overhead console, cloth seats and full carpeting, am/fm/CD, Chrysler 8 1/4 rear D30 front, full skid plates. Is that odd?

:D ;)

i have a question about my jeep it seems to be a base model (1990) with like three options: cruise, defroster and variable speed wipers. anyway i happened upon a lift gate (year unknown it was in the yard of a vacant house next door) i got the wiper motor out of it and brought the gate to a salvage yard. anyway when i put the motor in my cherokee i realized crap i forgot the relay however when i pulled the trim off my liftgate (which by was 'professionally' duct taped on by last guy who had it) the relay was there also there was wiper fluid hose and all the wiring was there. when i pulled the dash the wiring for the switch was there and the tranny switch which seemed odd because i have a 5speed. am i just making incorrect asssumptions about the wiring or is this how all cherokees came straight from the factory uneeded harnesses and all ps i need the rear wiper switch.....

I dunno. My '87 Pioneer already has just about every option you could get on it I think (but is a 5 speed go figure), but a lot of threads here seem to suggest the wiring for most electrical options is already present so those things are more or less plug & play. I think that sort of thing was common in the indusry at the time.

A guy at work has a '87 base model and he's adding a rear wiper and said there was something missing in the rear hatch but I can't remember what (just a bracket of some kind I think). Other than that all he needed was the dual pump washer tank and the dash switch.

I'm driving an 89 Wagoneer Limited. It has all the power goodies but no overhead console. It has leather power seats, all carpet and remote keyless entry, which I found weird for an 89. I found a parts Jeep here for mine when I was fixing it up. It was an 87 four cylinder with absolutely no options, bare bones, but it had 4.56 gears and the full skid package. Weird!

Chris

OKAY, my turn
1987 MJ
4.0
B/A 10-5
242 t-case
Leather buckets
NO full console, just the little one around the levers
Rubber liner
Power locks/mirrors
Manual windows.
Flip out wing windows
MANUAL steering
Premium radio package (6spk.)
Dealer installed FACTORY option front bumper WITH winch ( I thought that this was owner installed, WRONG, shows the bumper in the owner's manual as an option. COOOOOL.
3.73 gears, L/S front AND rear.

How About this one...
-1988 Cherokee SPORT (I was told it was mis-badged and "sport" was not a trim package on the cherokee till 89. It was SUPPOSED to be a Pioneer.)
-Basic Gauges
-4.0L Inline-Six
-AW4
-Command Trac
-2 Door
-Rear pop out windows
-D30/35
-Carpet floors
-Gas Tank Skid
-Front tow hooks
-Low-Back seats
-And a Leather Wrapped Wheel. (No Tilt)

Thats it! Pretty bare bones if ya ask me! 156,500 miles and counting...

Not only i had no idea that that was even made for the xj, it is prob. one of the coolest options. Pretty retro...........

I like that. I figured that there was a reason for that unused area. Are there some kind of sensors on the differentials and t/case? Do you have the full guage cluster with the tach?

Yep, full cluster. From what info I've gathered on these is that they were only available on the early Limiteds (and still very rare at that), possibly only on the Wagoneer Limited but I can not cornfirm 100%.
The first one I saw was retro fitted to a later XJ. The guy had the lights hooked up to 'dummy' circuits so that everything would still light up when the ignition was switched on and then shut off when the Jeep was started up. He piggy backed several of the lights to work with the oil pressure light, charging light etc. It was a pretty slick setup.

The only other one I've ever seen I grabbed out of a boneyard. I was going to install it in my 87 but never got around to it.

Probably just end up ebay'ing it since my 97 get's most of my spare time and $$. :D
