Need a DD jeep very soon

My daughter just moved to CO Springs, and needs a jeep. She has no tools, so we need one that has been brought up to DD service standards.

Want an 87-96 era. 1996 might be easier for her to get serviced locally there, as our tools are with me in Texas.

87-90 I have my own private stash of spare parts for apocalypse LOL, and trouble shoot them over the internet.....

Her old jeep, may she rest in piece, was an 89 2WD, she wants a 4WD. She is going to get her second degree up there and so she needs a decent rig, not a gas guzzler, but she loves outdoors, tough Mudder, Spartan races, and someday wants a rock climber, but for now I would prefer something that does not a specialist to work on....She is also a Pro-photographer, weddings, portraits, kids, vehicles and so on....

So let me know if you see something we might want or can offer a hand with minor fixes on, towing and minor work to get a non runner running again? Will pay for the help!!!! Most I see are non running on Craigs list, or not safe to drive yet.....etc.

What is the price point?

As little as possible, but willing to go as high as about $2000 for a good rig. Needs to be able to register and drive legally as a DD.

Just missed a perfect one for $1500 on Craigs C-Springs, we were a day late. But so far it looks like it was rare find per Fred.

She can handle some minor stuff like new wiper blades, battery, air filter, oil and so on. But one I was looking at sounds like it needs a new track bar and an expert to weld-fix the door hinge to get the door rain tight.

That reminds me, This one:

Might be interesting if it just needs a radiator or fan clutch and is not a head gasket issue. But I am not there to test it and find out.

Unless you all think a 4 banger is too weak for the terrain around there????

She is use to a solid 4.0 six banger.

I always liked to recommend WJ's for DD's as well. When compared to an XJ they come out on top. The WJ will be nicer, better maintained, more comfortable to drive, more power, and all for the same or less when it comes to purchase price. Quadradrive is fantastic to have in the Colorado winters.

This is a perfect example.

Obviously the miles are not listed, but a 2000 Limited. Likely going to have heated leather, it has Quadradrive, comes with a 4.7 V8 235 HP that gets the same MPG as an XJ. It looks to be in great shape and has had a lot of recent maintenance. You can get that for $3,250

Here is a $4,000 XJ

^ I had that going before I saw your response.

I would definitely recommend sticking with a 4.0 for Colorado. She will hate life with the 2.5. That is a 4.0 though, I do not think the 2.5 was an option in the Briarwood. If you squint hard enough you can see the 4.0 badge on the left side of the tailgate.

That '92 looks like a very good candidate!

I think a lot of people think a vehicle is overheating because the radiator cap is shot...

I can't even read it with 3x glasses and Bord Cataract lens implants LOL. But thanks for the correction!!!!! I was thinking a 2.5 might be disaster in the hills and mountain roads too.

So that leaves the issue of why it is overheating. I sent them a PM with questions. If it was here, I could do a compression test, Coolant head gasket leak test (looks for CO2 gas in the coolant), and vacuum gauge tests. Any luck it is just a clogged radiator. If it is a head gasket the price is too high LOL. Radiator it is a buy.....

Not by a long shot.

If that were closer to my way, and I had time, that's an easy flip that I could at least make ~$1k profit on.

I sold a '92 not long ago (that had been gone through by me with a bunch of new stuff to be fair), for $2200. It didn't last long, had it sold in a few days. It had nearly 200k on it, and looked a bit worse than that one

I'd have to second DJ. I was eyeing WJ's myself at one point, as XJ prices are absurd lately.

Wjs are hit or miss. I see some nice ones, and others that are buckets of crap. I'd stay with the 4.0, as a high mileage 4.7 is a ticking time bomb. Jeeps have gone way up in price here, because it seems there's some new high demand for them.

Glad to see you chimed in!

and do NOT get a 4.0 WJ... they are fat pigs and can't pull themselves up the hills around colorado springs -- and there are some mighty ones around UCCS.

I bought my last 2 XJs in Houston for $450 ea. One needed a master cylinder. I drove it home using the parking brake LOL.

Sounds like I need to start exporting XJs up there for a living.party1:

I've thought this over and over
I feel like I stole my 95. Ended with 1800 purchase price. But it needed some love and has stupid wiring ugliness I have to fix still. And it's a base model. But only has 113k which is nice.
