Mojave Trail

5 gallons is advisable but not necessary.

You can fuel up at the Avi Casino and can make it to Barstow on a tank.

If you do any extra side trips than yeah extra fuel would be necessary.

Its about 140 miles going strait.

I usually make it a 3-4 day trip, but if you drove out friday night you could make it a comfortable 2 day trip without too many side ventures.

I did the entire trail once in about 14 hours, moving quick.

don't move that quick, I've also had my trailer rolled on mojave road twice (neither time i was towing it).

And, for nature calls, what do you carry? Or, .....

Actually, my family has a PETT toilet. They are pretty inexpensive, and anyone who does longer trips should pick one up.

this is my home town...if any of you guys plan a trip i would be interested in going or atleast meeting some fellow members and checking out their rigs =]

How long would this trip take? Can it be done comfortably on a weekend?

I have done the trail twice, and the family really enjoys it!
We camp in Afton canyon on Friday night and typically camp just north of Mitchels (sp?) caves on Saturday evening, then drive into Laughlin on Sunday and drive home Monday.

If you can make it to the caves before 3 you may be able to get the cave tour, we haven't made that yet, maybe next year. Check with the tour times and if the group is large enough you may be able to get tickets in advance.

Just because Cal is going out of town doesn't mean it can't be done Thanksgiving.

I agree with this. Mainly because ill be out of collage.

I'm thinkin you need to stay a bit longer. :) JK

If you wait till the last part of April or first of May, the desert floor is typically on fire with poppies and other wildflowers. Everything is blooming and the weather is usually a little more tolerable. There is still a climb of over 6000 feet in elevation near Hole in the Wall. If you camp there, it will get pretty chilly over night.

Great run for history and all out relaxation. Drive slow, take a breath, enjoy the beauty only the Mojave can give, and relax.

The best time for me so far was a 3 night trip. We started in Laughlin, camped at Mid hills the first night, camped at 17 mile the second night, then at afton canyon campground the 3rd. Each day we set out by 9:30 am and we were setting up camp by 4:00. That gave us plenty of time to sit around a campfire with our drink of choice and truly relax.

Are You getting pulled out by a Libby???

No he's not. That Lib was officially made an honorary XJ on that run.
