Looking for mj info

i sold a pair of taillights on ebay for $350

if you are gonna wheel, i would go with a shortbed. if you plan on hauling anything, then go longbed. i hate getting the "man these are so rare why do you wheel yours" speech, so dont listen to anyone that says that.

I have a XJ trail rig, i want a nice MJ to DD and haul stuff in. LWB would be okay but I like the way the SWB's look lifted. The LWB are plentiful around here but SWB's are not.

I like the look of the short bed mjs too. The cab just looks real short on the long bed. So mjs are sua? I thoight that most just convert it to soa. What's a good price for an mj in so cal? Id even be willing to go to to nv or az to get one for.the right deal. I got my xj for 1000 it was bone stock and rusted being a missouri vehicle. I not on The hunt for a pristine one. Just one in half decent shape that runs well. And this time in poking around with a screwdriver. The rust repair on my xj was a bitch. Oh and does any of the interior swap between xj and mj? I see most with porno red or tan... Fugly! Is like gray or black. Thanks for all the input.

they are SUA from the factory. Swapping to SOA gets about 5-6" of lift, I didn't want that so I went with SUA leafs (very few companies make them for the MJ though.)

Interior swaps from the seats forward, just the B pillar trim and headliner are different basically.

Hell Creek makes some very good springs for the MJ and SOA

SMS headliners will make you a great looking headliner for your MJ for $135. Steve used my MJ as a test pig for the fit!

Make sure when you buy a MJ it has all of the "MJ" specific parts on it like the rain drip rails(impossible to find and they are known for falling off) the rear glass trim gasket, the inside corner and behind the seat trim.

Mine was missing some of this stuff and I had a hell of time finding the parts.

And eliminate the load sensing valve as soon as you can source a 95-97 XJ dual diaphragm booster/proportioning valve. I just did mine and wow what a difference. I have brakes now! I can do a write up specific to the MJ if anyone needs it.

Is there anyone who makes a lift specifically for an mj? I would like to run maybe 4.5 lift with 33 or 35 inch tires. Most likely 33. I think it's a happy median that size. My xj would be my main toy and the mj would just be a clean looking driver with some mild wheeling. The more mjs i see the more I like them. I hate the look of them stock. Just looks pussy to me but they look mean lifted with some nice meats on them. Also I would just put in a 8.8 and swap the master to wj probably. As far as interior would go. I like gray. It works for me. Hides dirt and cleans up nice IMO. What's a good price for a running mj that needs normal maintenance type repair. Im too cheap to buy a cherry but I don't want to dick with a clunker either. I've seen some for 1200 then some for 4500. I'd like to stay around 800 to 1500 if that's possible.

They're getting harder to find for a decent price, Ray. I got mine in Vegas in '08 for $2K. Sounds like a lot, but the body was dent- and rust-free. Now it seems that a truck in similar condition would go for twice as much.

You can still find a beater for not much money, but they are gonna be pretty thrashed. Right after I got mine, I found one for Russ Pottenger in Phoenix for $3K, but it was in gorgeous condition. These past three years, the MJ market has really changed.

They definitely don't seem to be as plentiful as the xj. I know a deal or a decent price when I see one I was just wondering what to expect. I ll hunt until o find the right one. I'm not In a have to buy situation so I can atleast try to find the one for me. I just have to convince the wife that I need it. :)

Yeah, when I got mine, I wasn't necessarily looking to buy one. But I told myself if I could find a 91-92 4.0/AW4/231 shortbed, that I would seriously consider buying it. Then I found one with a perfect body and a D44. I was on the first tour bus to Vegas.

the abundance of them depends on your location. they are somewhat easy to find around here. I have bought 3 of them for $1300, $1200, and $900. all of them were rusted out.

LWB models are plentiful in SW VA. There are a couple of SWB's on CL but they need work or have had work done and its all done wrong. Here is an example;

http://roanoke.craigslist.org/cto/2773258722.html

He has done a 96 OBD2 swap and it wont run, go figure! OBD2 is very sensitive. I can fix it but he wants too damn much for it. Also, not enough lift for 35's. The interior is trashed and it has rust!

that is plenty of lift for 35s. I'll trust you on the rust and interior being trashed.

I don't think he is near 6" of lift, its more like 4.5

There is lots wrong with it, he has had it on CL for a couple of months

34's on 3" of lift.

plenty of room to open up the rear wheel wells. Just don't go through the inner pinch seam or the bedside flops around.

It used to be pretty.

Now it's just a beat MJ trail rig that's missing most of it's sheetmetal.

I still got that sweet sunroof though.

I'm not bashing your rig at all, I like it! I just want to build a really sweet mall crawler to ride around in, looks good, and can haul stuff in for my house. I hauled a 4x8 sheet of plywood in the trail rig the other day and thought it would really be nice to have a pick-up again of my own. I could always use my son's MJ but I want my own.

This is exactly why I got my mj. And why I won't bob the bed. I haul lumber and plywood and drywall with it way too often.

While I was building my new roof still, it hauled 12 sheets of 3/4 ply at once. The leafs hated me but nothing else had a problem with it.
