Lexus 4.0 engine swap ??

Well it has made very slow progress on the lexus swap, It is in and there will be more firewall mods than i figured. But i will proceed soon. The engine is wide but fits fine width wise. The problem with a overhead camed engine is the heads are flush with the back of the block and they hit the fire wall before it mates to the trans. So option A is to move the trans forward or option B is to notch out firewall to fit engine.

Go with option A since new DSs are in order as well, I'm Sure.
Keep us up to date here. We are all curious to hear(read) the progress and especially the ECM/TCM rewireing that must be done. Good luck and knock em dead.

What are you planning on doing for engine management or are you going to run the stock ECU w/ auto trans?

Bradfordxj, the AW4 was designed as an auto with removable bellhousing. It was originally Japanese, and fitted to a wider variety of cars than here.

I think the biggest dealbreaker of a Lexus conversion will be the wiring harness/computer. All the old will need taking out, the newer put in. As for fitting into the engine compartment, interference with existing components will occur, hose fitments and routing to the radiator - or a custom, P/S hook up and fluid compatibility (Honda uses their own, IIRC,) exhaust clearance, oil pan clearance, starter cable hook up and wiring, etc. Will the AW4 input splines match the Lexus converter, is it a good stall speed for a 4WD?

Engine bays are designed around a specific application. The I-6 was a shoehorn job for the Cherokee. It wasn't considered, the I-4 and Chevy V-6 were the original configuration - which may actually help a lot.

The devil is in the details.

These guys here in Oz have all done the swap without any problem not using the Lexus auto and even used a manual in most cases.

There are others too on that site in Hiluxs which I think you call Toyota Pickups? http://www.4wdmonthly.com.au/forum/forumdisplay.php?f=22

Yeah, thing is that in North America the 1UZ was never offered without a automatic so the engine ECU and auto ECU are integral for everything over here. At least that is my understanding from researching putting a 1UZ in a FC3S. People over here go aftermarket ECU to get around it ($$$$ :: :().
