i agree to a certain extend but i see it a little like smoking in bars...when your choices directly affect me, then i don't have a problem with it being a law. people dying or getting seriously injured for not wearing seat belts significantly impacts the cost of accident clean up, investigations, hospital transportation in an accident and it has a direct impact on insurance premiums. all of which have an impact on more than just your self. i realize you can make the same argument about smoking, drinking and cheeseburgers but there have been studies that show that seat belts do have a direct cause:effect relationship with your safety in a lot of accidents...so for that reason i do understand it.

also boobies...
Well if every one put a fire suppression system in their houses look at the money that would be saved on the fire fighters.
There were non-smoking bars around here before big brother stepped in and forced everyone to go outside and smoke. We would patronize them a lot more than we did the regular bars. The owners were happy and they enjoyed having our support.
The USA is getting way over board with the nanny state shit!

If you continue that reasoning you can regulate and require anything. Like he's health insurance...

Infringement is infringement, no matter how good the reasons

so no laws at all? because you can argue infringement on anything you want when it comes to the laws in this country.

no matter what any law is infringement...you either have one or the other. you have laws that make sense or you have no laws at all. i would be perfectly fine with no government and no laws in this country, but we all know that's not realistic. seat belts laws have actually been proven effective with scientific evidence. i like science...it works for me. the smoking in bars analogy was a bad one in retrospect.

i have yet to see scientific evidence that proves government or the insurance companies are effective in making our healthcare system anything other than a giant cluster*&ck.

Seatbelts help saves lives, even lives of people who should not have made it, they are over ruling natural selection......

i just thought it was comical that the guy i was talking to was 100% convinced that its safer to never wear a seat belt.

when are we starting our naxja commune on the preston farm? no laws...just midget strippers and top self blow for currency

I don't think you can make the arguement that seat belt laws make sense because of healthcare costs. That's a discussion that requires a Ph.D in bullshit.

If everyone in this country was responsible for their own choices and the healthcare cost consequences of those choices, you wouldn't need health insurance, doctors wouldn't need to get paid millions of dollars to pay for overpriced education and the people who couldn't afford healthcare would die.

That's how capitalism works. Socialism is what we have now. It doesn't work.

no one did...because the health care system in the US is more f-ed up than the government. i was speaking about car insurance premiums and the cost of the services of the first responders and investigators. those costs go up exponentially when there is a severe injury or fatality involved

also thank you guys for actually applying logic to your thoughts...i need to learn to stop talking to stupid people when i have down time at work

There's a guy at work alive after a car crash because he wasn't wearing a seatbelt...if he had, he'd be dead...which I suppose it's cheaper to have buried him than his healthcare costs...he got a day off to for violating policy not wearing a seatbelt.

I recently found out the don't like being called midgets. Also people Mc nugget is not acceptable...

I am a firm believer in wearing seat belts... been to many fatal accidents where the victim could have survived if they had worn a seatbelt...not all of them, but a good majority.

As a kid, the car didn't move until the seat belt went on. If it came off, we had one chance to get it on before the car got pulled over. It is second nature to put it on now (much like my motorcycle riding gear {high vis stuff also})

How about seat belts on motorcycles?? And retractable nipple clamps...
