Anyone know a reputable and well-price shop or home mechanic that is trustworthy to install new gears and a full case locker in a Dana 44 I'm buying this week?

Too far to get my rig up there, it can't drive due to the rearend. I'm going to talk to Gresham 4 wheel drive and see what they would charge me.

Go to a gear specialist.

Thanks guys! Sorry SpecFab, between replies I called around already. Gresham 4 wheel drive is going to hold the axle for me until drop shipped parts get there, do the gears and locker install, and install the axle under the rig for $400. Happy to pay it to make my life easy over the next week =)

But, we'll talk later on when I'm looking for help on disk brakes on the rear and putting a new axle under the front to match the rear!

$400 isn't bad are they taking the abs out of it too
I know some shops won't install a non abs axle in a rig with abs because it deletes a safety feature and you can sue them if you get in a wreck

I plan to disable ABS before it leaves the shop. When I searched the forums it looked like on late models you just pull the under dash and under hood fuses and the pump is no longer powered. You couldn't do that on the pre-91's, but should work here.

As a follow-up, Gresham 4 Wheel Drive did an excellent job and I recommend them to anyone.

I had someone deliver a Dana 44 to their shop, they removed it from his truck, held it until the parts I drop shipped came in, put in gears, chromoly shafts, a full-case locker, cleaned and painted the housing, etc and the rig was up and running in 72 hours.

I HIGHLY reccomend KNA and or fourplay Offroad! Way more knowledgable than some of the above mentioned places, whom I will not name. Darell is incredible (Kna) and I forget the fourplay guys name but he's done gears for a bunch of my Toyota buddies and will be doing my xj gears very soon!

Actually Darrel doesn't do gear install anymore. He sends everyone over to Mike at 4 play.. 503-278-9306

I knew he was 'working with' or 'helping' mike @ 4play but didn't know he straight up wasnt doing them anymore....

Lol I never said he didn't! :)
I haven't even talked to him in almost 10 years... I do know that he has always been 'selective' on what work he does (and even who he does work for) which may be what all the confusion. Among other things....

Just call Darrel on a weekday. Morning'ish.. He's a Great guy to talk to.

If I ever need any custom axle work, He'll always be my Go-to
