Big ol' fake. They just trick your engine to think its cold outside, so it dumps more fuel in, and you burn rich, no power gain.

I've been doing that resistor trick for years. It was majic on my Ford Escape but did nothing to the XJ. Best way is to put a 10K ohm potentiometer in series with one of the IAT sensor wires and add resistance as needed. It works better in summer.

ive heard they do nothing for the xj. but they do help most other vehicles..... also bad for them too.
