Beep Beep, I'm A Jeep!

I did the same thing with my wheels. I like the look of it compared to the silver guys. Plus those center caps really pop in contrast.

I haven't. I'm a painting noob too, is a clear coat necessary?

not if you used regular enamel paint. Let it dry for a while, like 2 weeks, then attack it with a buffing wheel. It will sihne up nice, just don't wear through your paint layer.

Found a set of stock leaf springs from an 87 xj on CL. 2 quick questions:

1. will they fit my '96? I believe they are the same size eye-eye, but I just wanted to make sure.
2. is it worth the 20 bucks for them? Looking under my heep, my leafs bend the "wrong" way, they look like a hill as opposed to a U. Looking at the pics on CL, these look more like a U. any way to see how much spring is left in them when I go look at them, besides just stomping on it and see if it holds my weight?

Are you planning on lifting it? If so go get some S10 or dakota rear leaves, bastard pack up your existing leaf packs, order front coils to match.

Well I've got some new problems, of course!

Lost my job sunday, and just to kick a guy when he's down, my Jeep developed a weird new thud. After it sits for a little while, and I go to start it, I hear a loud thud and rattling coming from what I believe is possibly the pass. side motor mount? It only lasts a few moments, and seems to go away after I drive for a little bit. It could maybe be coming from a little further back, maybe by the trans? It definitely sounds like a mount of some sort, or a bolt is loose somewhere, but I can't seem to find it.

I was wondering if anyone around the Madison area is willing to come to my place and check it out with me? Unfortunately I don't have a ton of cash to pay a shop to look at this, I'm hoping its something we can diagnose. I can pay someone in beers, or buy you lunch or something, let me know what works for you. I live on the north side of Stoughton now, and have half a garage we can get the front half of the Jeep into if need be. If not, the driveway works fine as well. Basically any time works great, except for friday night-sunday morning, I'm going to be out of town for a baptism. Now that I don't have a job, I'm free during the week.

Thanks-

check out the mounting bolts for the starter. If they work loose that's the kind of noise you get. Easy enough to see without even jacking it up.

what about jacking it off?

hahahah sorry I couldn't resist, I know I'm childish

if that's what it takes to fix it.......

personally I'd just hire an escort to take care of it, bonus points if she supplies the blow.

So it looks like the day has come! Due to some extremely worn leafs and a cracked rear shock, I will be lifting this heep this weekend. I planned on waiting a few more months to save up cash for more parts, but I don't feel safe driving around like this anymore. About a month ago I got the Rustys 3" kit, with full leafs and coils. Its been patiently waiting in my garage next to a set of BFG A-Ts. They mock me every time I pull in...."why arn't we on the truck yet.....I do you no good sitting in a garage..." you get the idea. So instead of waiting for cash for LCAs and track bar and such, I'm going to swap in what I have currently, and do the other stuff another day.

I plan to take some pictures to see how it goes. Before/after shots, and to make sure I reassemble everything correct! Any tips or ideas for a guy doing this for the first time? Anything you know now that you wish you knew then?
