Been screwing around ...

I haven't been around much but to my defense I've been busy with life and all that boring stuff however this year I realized I didn't even get to go out last year and take a break up in the mountains , camp or even just spend some time up there . After working on the 92" MJ and the phat wagon I realized I needed some motivation to get camping this year .

So instead of buying another 2 year long project , I bought a 1977-78 22" ft Great divide travel trailer on CL today ,
I've always wanted a cool retro style trailer in good condition and this one fits the bill .

How do you say ultra-fab-u-lustor ...:viking:

I'll have some pics up tomorrow fer yus . Too dark tonight to enjoy the gold-member express .
I'll say though this thing is in great condition inside anyway , fully functional as well .

That is neat jush wish i had a place to store mine down here .i keep a small 14 ft at lake mcconaughy

Problem is , I want to spend all my time in it just sitting in the back yard . :greensmok

Today I got to spend some time poking around inside at the interior , checking all the little things out and overall I'm pretty satisfied with my purchase , not bad for a grand and a custom Norinco SKS For trade .

All the exterior is stock but the internals have been gone through with new gas fittings and twin deep cycle battery backup , newer paint and seat covers . Everything was kept in great shape and was mostly parked for many years until the guy I bought it from fixed
up a couple things . Everything works with the exception of a couple dents and dings here and there .

The outside needs some love but you can't even lie on the gold flake uber sweed bathroom , now that shits tight ...
WTF was it with the Sweeds and gold ...

Yes , its not a looker yet but to find these things in actual working order is hard to find and when you do you're research finding one in good condition is in the 2-3k range , I found quite a few crap piles for 1500
that I wouldn't touch with a ten foot pole . 3-4k for a nicer trailer was out of the budget and I know a little about the cost of restoring some of these things can be like a house .
Fortunately the guy before me put the 75.00 power converter 300.00 in the dual deep cell batteries and
just put about 200.00 in all new propane tanks and fittings , hoses . Also he just re-plumbed the septic and re- ran all new water hoses and put in a 50.00 battery charger for the batteries .
Plus the the previous owner just put 4 brand new AT tires on with new brakes and bearings .
That right there would put me over 400.00 without labor . Most of the trailers I looked at needed most of this type of work and parts/labor . All together this thing has gas central heat , stove /oven , shower and tub , water heater , refrigerator .
So for a 250.00 SKS and a g note , I'm living a little white trash dream kicking it in the back yard .
I still have another SKS and my SKAR-15 does just fine by me now .

Other positive notes are the whole thing is sealed and at least water tight . not really any body damage and
a little clean up work and some paint , little spray insulation here and there and it will look new .
However if vintage trailers aren't your bag then yeah their all hideous but this one was one of the top of the line back then , everything is solid wood and steal , rebuildable and durable , lots of stuff you can do with these things .
As far as hauling the wife and I just bought an 08' Toyota Tundra , we haven't picked it up yet but its the better model with the towing pack , that should suffice for small trips but yeah eventually I'll need something in a 2500-3500 truck . The guy had a Ford F250 and it pulled without much effort .

While I admit the 70's porno swagger this thing gives off is pretty bad so an ultimate resto- re-mod will be in order . my skills with carpentry go way beyond any knowledge I have of vehicle mechanics .

Plans for remodel include
Re-painting and re-sealing the outside with any other color than GOOoooollld .

Putting new flooring in and insulate any areas that are thin , caulk and laminate the glass with weather proofer.
Install an onboard generator and air compressor .

Lay some type of new flooring than that crap and rebuild the dinner table area in the middle for some other purpose than just a table and bed .

Install an LCD TV ,( wall mounted ) and mount a microwave or toaster oven . Probably some type of stereo system and multi media station as well with all the extra space this thing has .

Mainly I bought this thing to get my wife and kids out the house for a weekend but I'm way more apt to
just pull the thing out to go with my friends on the weekend sometime .

I bet I could just rent a truck for two days if push came to shove , I will go camping this year ...:guitar:

Interesting. Wouldn't have thought it would be that hard to find one, but I suppose I can see your point of view on it's value to a degree...... with all the work done to maintain it by the prev. owners.

A neighbor lady on my block mentioned that she wanted to get rid of hers - it looks a whole lot like the one you have - tandem axle and all. But I imagine it hasn't been used in 10+ years. She mentioned this last winter when I was helping her get her car un-stuck on the street in front of my house.... she knew I hauled off unwanted cars and asked if I'd want the trailer. She said she'd been trying to sell it for years....... maybe it's all nasty from sitting, but from what I can see over the fence, it's been covered in multiple tarps for a very long time....... :dunno:

Not so much rare as being old in good condition , 200.00 trailers can be found but in what interior option , working order and condition usually always reflects the price . For the money I could have gotten a way newer trailer for a couple grand more but I like funky 70's trailers , they remind me of growing up in the early 80's
late 70's with allot of families having them and my dad was all hardcore sleep your ass on the floor type ,
so naturally we didn't ever get a travel trailer until I was much older .

The great thing about trailers is they really never loose their usefulness , as newer trucks come out you can always upgrade , with a motor home you're kinda stuck with the power train and drivetrain that the manufacturer originally intended , witch in this case would be like 33 years old and wouldn't work .
With a little resto and some newer mods this thing will get use years to come .

I have a friend in ogalla (lake macconaghy) that teaches kite boarding and has a bunch of those old trailers from 12 to 30 ft he rents them out and hauls them to the shore line at the lake, thats where i keep mine .
