The mini spool replaces the spiders and acts like a lunchbox but doesnt rachet. The spool replaces the whole carrier. If you are regearing go for the spool, if not go for the mini so you dont have to mess with the gears. If you like your tires to last, go with a lunchbox or selectable.
Thank you very much for the input guys. This will only be seeing road to get to trails and back about once or twice a month. I'm not too worried about the tires.
The 8.8 is a C-clip axle. If you decide on a full spool, make sure it will accept C-clips. Many full spools require C-clip eliminators so check before you purchase.

x3...and I have been looking into this as well and found that you have to do the C-clip eliminator. Moser offers one for $150 but have not found out if it will work on the explorer 8.8 axle (it was made for the mustang 8.8).
