Re: THe NAC Lots-O-Post Thread

It ends this Friday!

Re: THe NAC Lots-O-Post Thread

Anyone else finding seniorxj's temper tantrum hilarious?

Re: THe NAC Lots-O-Post Thread

just got the j10 back from the first successful road test.was battling the brakes and death wobble all day

how to fix brakes= bypass the gay proportioning valve

how to fix death wobble = tighten down that stupid bolt on top of the steering box til you start to feel a little resistance.

Re: THe NAC Lots-O-Post Thread

Just got back from Rausch, spent all day tuning rigs with Wayne from Alltech (west coast shock guru guy).

I have a whole new outlook on this stuff. We took a shit rig that drove like ass and turned it into the most compliant, controllable, comfortable rig I've ever ridden in. The driver doesn't know how good it is and he's too much of a newb to drive it to its new potential...I wanted to rip him out of the driver seat and stand on the throttle over stuff that used to scare the shit out of me.

Throw away the valving charts (yes, even Joel's), throw away the coilover/spring rate bible...there's some cool shit I learned today. Can't wait to have my own rig to do this stuff on.

No. I don't like babysitting, getting 7 reported threads in an hour, nor 1 billion PMs about it. It's a nice day on a holiday, why was anyone inside on a computer (unless they had to be, I know some work)?

Sounds like fun.
I'm all ears at NACFest.

Trust me, I got the same.

I'll ride along with ya for a bit. If you've got the same problem as before I think I have a solution now.

What your biggest complaint is, as far as the shock tuning world is concerned, is called a 'nuisance event'. Which is a medium-to-large rock in the way of an otherwise clear line that causes medium shock shaft speeds without necessarily high travel speeds. If you're valved for high speed it'll feel fine if you hit it faster, if you're valved for crawling it'll feel fine if you hit it slower, but it's the middle ground that sucks. And there's a cool way around that.

In deference to Wayne I'm not gonna spread his tuning methods out publicly. So yes, we'll talk at NACfest.

After this weekend, I'm totally pumped to get moving on my project...both because I rode along in a bunch of rigs, and also because the response I've gotten from many people about what I'm building has been overwhelmingly positive and it sounds like everyone wants to see it happen. Guess it's game on after RCQ. :D

Nothing has changed other than the front shocks. That alone seems to have fixed at lot of the issue, now it seems to be only that 'nuisance event' you speak of in the rear. It 'hangs' a bit like you saw after a hit. But in all honesty I don't want to 'ruin' or effect the crawling ability at all. That seems to work pretty well in that, I think...

I'm willing to change anything. What is a bonus is I can always go back to whatever it was if I don't like it.

I want to see your rig done. It is going to be badass.
TOP SECRET
Exactly.

What are your springs in the rear, and how did you arrive at those rates? I forget.

If you know what your corner sprung weight and exposed shock shaft length at ride height is it'd help as far as figuring out your next step.

12" 150lb over 14" 250lb with 5.5" of shock exposed on a 14" shock. (just ran down and measured at ride height). According to when I selected them it was 515lbs per rear corner.

Re: THe NAC Lots-O-Post Thread

What does everyone like for a battery? My yellow top finally shit the bed.

I'm thinking die hard platinum.

I got a badass new platinum I might sell you. I bought two for the Dirtymax but the posts are backwards. I haven't tried to go back to sears yet to see if I can swap them.

For now I'm running a NAPA premium one in black jeep that I dont need in the Nova. I've had a similar NAPA one in red jeep since I bought it like almost 3yrs ago.
