Doomed... I have another XJ!

It arrived today! I cannot tell ya how nice it is to crawl under a Jeep and not have rust. Soooo damned happy to be away from the east coast salted crap.

Yeah, I know... I did not build it. Yes, I have built more than a few. This is like my 9th Jeep, 7th XJ? Yes, I would do a few things differently. Yes, I know is has a D30 front axle.

A few oil leaks to track down, nothing major. It has a vibe with the front drive-shaft in, so some geometry to look at. Runs great, AC even works... but will not be used on the trail, XJ's just cannot deal with AC and trails without overheating (usually).

Tuesday the guy I purchased it from is stopping by with a bunch of extra parts, including another D44 rear and a D44 front.

Fiancee paid cash for my new toy as a gift. Wooooo Hoooooo. Looking forward to hitting some easy areas until I get rid of the D30. Gotta keep to the easy stuff, as 35's and a D30 = tow truck.

Cannot play with it this weekend. Insurance starts tonight at midnight, registration cannot be done until Tuesday. :(

Some specs from the previous owner:
DANA 44 REAR W/LIMIT SLIP
DANA 30 FRONT OPEN W/WELD ON BRACE
LONG ARM FROM TERA FLEX W/RUSTY UPPER ARMS WELDED ON

4.0 I 6
AUTO
242 TRANFER
PT CRUISER FRONT SEATS
DISC BRAKES IN REAR FROM TERA FLEX
HIGH STEER FROM TERA FLEX
ADGUSTABLE TRACK BAR FROM RUSTYS W/FRAME STIFFER
STEERING BOX BRACE
35X12.50X15 MTZ
15X10 RIMS
TINTED WINDOWS

4.11 GEARS

Here are a few pics (hopefully). Mail delivery XJ in a couple of pics.

Thats a nice looking xj. Whats up with the 7.5 leaves with removable shack? also check out your shackle angle. In the third pic it looks weird.

very nice Glenn, good luck! you are so lucky to get away from jersey

edit: your mail carrier has an xj!

When the house sold, we wanted to get the hell outta NJ. Taxes, etc.. and sucky weather. I love the desert, so here we are.

It is not bad, thanks. Good start on a project. He made a typo in his ad, they are revolver shackles, hence the odd look.

No real conclusion yet. The rear has Skyjacker springs, seem a bit stiff. Will know more when I get to go out and play. 3 day weekend has it pretty much parked until I can register it on Tuesday. I think the stiffness is more with the springs, than the shackles. BTW, I am not sold on the merits of thos shackles... time will tell.

Nice, how do those shackles ride? i have always been curious.

Not even worried about getting rid of stickers yet. More in to checking fluids, etc... and looking for loose parts.

So how long did it take you to get rid of the Teraflex sticker in the middle of the windshield?

:D

Make sure any ownership issues are covered in the pre-nup agreement! :rtm:

I wouldn't worrya bout the 30 as long as there are alloys in it, these days as long as you're not a lead foot driver in the rocks a 30 is fine up to 35s. Of course if you're more likely to mash the throttle you'd best upgrade...

Now you have to get used to driving a modified Cherokee again. "What the hell is wrong with this thing, did my axle break off? Oh wait, that's how it's supposed to feel."

So - You'll have it set up and ready for JV in November, right?

Maybe... who knows. You will be here for ABQ trails soon, right?

I did trails in SoCal before you had hair in yer crotch... so you can come this way this time. :)

Nice that was for sale in the mountains huh??? Hey if you decide on getting rid of one of those d44s lemme know I wanna get my hands on one. I wanna regear my axles and now that i work at 4wheel parts on menual i can do it myself for cheap but I don't wanna dump money into the d35 I have. I also could use a new front axle, I'm starting to notice some gnarly camber wear in the front tires.

Yeah, south of Moriarty. Will let ya know, depends on how my plans go. 4wheelparts eh? Lemmee know if they are ever hiring counter people. :)

And how are those pt loser seats???
What year xj is it??

They seem comfortable so far. The arm rest in the middle is nice, but does make opening the console a bit tougher. It is an 89.

Looking forward to getting it smog tested and registered tomorrow so I can start checking for what changes I wanna make. I am pretty sure I want to remove the adjustable coil gizmos from Fabtech... the front sits a bit too high, even with them backed all the way down.

Yeah I seen it on Cl and cherokeeforum all the time Congrats
Ya as far as I know they're not looking but if they do ill let You know...
I'm looking for some new seats I wanna put some newer xj seats or something different in My rig.
hell ya For 89s mines a 89 too.

You are welcome to come see and feel how they fit. PO even kept the original XJ electrical switches. IIRC, they were $40 for the pair.
