What kind of "deals" did you get for your XJ?

i picked up my first for a 1000 bucks, it was a 90 laredo, power everything, rean great, witha perfect interior and body. 200k on it. Rolled it 7 months later....

Got my second the same week, a 92 laredo, 205k on it, lifted 6'' with 32 BFG MT KMs, NP242 and an AW4. It ran perfect and the body/interior were both in near perfect condition, then, about 9 months later, i rolled it too...But i straightened it back up and drove it for another two years, then it decided to freak out and blow its ECM fuse, over an over, and i had already found Jeep #3

Its a 93, it wasnt in great condition at all. I had to do a ton of work to it, but i already had most of the parts i needed from the 92 that just died. so i swapped just about everything over, including the interior, skids, t case, and i swapped in different axles, and body panels that were over trimmed, re welded pinch seams, and re painted it. paid 700 bucks for it. And then put hundreds of hours into it.

'88 Laredo w/ 148000 on the clock.
- Seller was driving to work and it blew a radiator hose & heated up in front of the store.
- Seller bought and replaced the hose and thermostat, but it overheated again in five minutes.
- A buddy of his came to help him "fix" it w/ a 12 pack and they decided it had a blown head gasket.
- They bought a torque wrench and a head gasket set and started to drink and "fix" it.
- Fifteen minutes later the seller came in b*tching about having broken two head bolts and said it wasn't worth the effort to fix it.
- I was asked if I could get it towed away free, so I told him I'd need the title to make it happen.
- Seller's wife told him she wanted $200.00 for the new radio they'd had installed the prior week.

- "Head bolts" in question turned out to be valve cover bolts (they don't like 110ft/lbs of torque!)
- cooling system needed to be burped
- I returned the head gasket set and torque wrench for $120.00 bringing the total down to:

$80.00

here goes. i got my 1990 wagoneer limited in exchange for painting my in laws house. she was pretty neglected mechanically since all the fluids were almost empty and the pinion bearing in the d35 were so gone it would rattle ur fillings out so i got a 8.8 out of an exploder with discs and threw it in there with a $100 Bastard pack and new 2" coils with a spacer to get 3" and some new 31" duratracs and now shes a go anywhere do anything family wagon. o ya its pretty much rust free everywhere....and these maine winters arent easy on the nice thin sheetmetal. :farmer:

I picked up a 96 sport 4door 4x4 AW4, I6 with 99k, no rust at all, new tires, new radiator and blown factory radio for $1800.

So far had to get a replacement NSS to clear the check engine light (and so it could start) paid $20 for a reman on ebay and it needed a new ignition switch ($30) and new plugs and cables. Of course I replaced the radio and 4 speakers.

I still want to get all new shocks and replace all the hoses and serp belt but It runs and looks good.

1988 Jeep Cherokee for $500, came with good tires with lots of tread left on it.

Automatic
AW4 - Full-Time & Part-Time 4WD
Stock dana axles
Inline 6
4.0L
Strong engine

Only had to buy a new battery, scored & bought one from the junk yard for $25 and it was basically brand new.

Nothing bad on it mechanically speaking, just really bad body rust from a hack autobody job. The guy put up pictures on the website and there were like 500 hits. I picked it up the same day I looked at it.

No stereo came with it, no speakers. Bought a used stereo from junk yard for $20, and got some 6x9 speakers for $10. Had to do the heater resistor coil right away.

I am going to start hacking her up with a saws-all. I like the jeep with the cut out doors, gives me some ideas on mine

I got a '95 Jeep Cherokee country (03/19/10) for $1k
it needed the rest of the falling apart headliner pulled out and then put roll on bedliner on the inside, headlight switch replaced, new tires, new rear shocks and leafs, and blinkers didnt(dont work yet)and a possible rear axle seal leak.

I have already changed the plugs, plug wires, cap and rotar, put a throttle body spacer on it,new air filter, gonna change the oil this week and start on the rear end.

Best part is Iam a firefighter, and I bought it from a firefighter so it came with some LED lights for the job (hells yea)

found my 88 at a yard sale, guy wanted 500 for it. i asked what was wrong with it. he said his boy ran it out of oil and locked it up. i'm ready to walk away and he says but i put a new motor in it. OK you have my attention again. he says i came home one day turned it off and it has not started again, he put new dist, coil, plug wires, harness and a CPU. i pop the hood and look at the CPS wires and yep laying on the manifold all burnt up. offered him 250 and i walked away with it. new CPS and it's now my DD. oh ya he had it painted when the new motor went in. i stiil have to put the emblems back on.
