the LED tail light thread

small update:
I spoke with the guy today, he didn't have chance to get much done because he had a small family crisis
(his wife was in the gym when the psycho went in and started shooting everyone - thankfully she's ok)

He did ask me to verify a wire color diagram for the tail lights so he can get the right wires for each bulb
connection. Can someone help me out?

Over at DesertFab Motorsports they tail light housings for jeep cherokees. I bought a pair and finally fit them onto my jeep they came with the oval work truck lights you see on the back of contractor trucks and vans, instead of using those I opted for L.E.D's of that shape. Definitely nothing like OEM but its another avenue if you want L.E.D tail lights, that and they can take a beating too. Problem is you have to wait awhile for those guys to make them for ya and ship them. I waited almost nine months for the damn things.

Definitely I just got a new computer and just need to download my camera's software and I'll drop some pics. If you have seen the integrated Tail lights from THOR 4X4 they resemble those though.

Probably that

To be honest guys ever since I Installed these housings from Desert Fab Motorsports on my 97 cherokee all I have been having is problems with them and when I got them they were about $60 dollars cheaper. They don't fit right and are not square (problem due to the fact they do not fabricate them themselves, they have a yokel somewhere near them whip em up. Main problem I have been having with them is that since the stock wire layout was a 3 bulb set up and by going to a two bulb setup that these housings are I ran into problems with those red oval lights. The lights have 3 inputs- Tail/signal,stop/ground when I spliced the majors of the stock turn signal wiring (major green/black) and the stock major from the stop/tail (major white/red) all I would get when I used the blinkers to make a turn was that it looked like the hazards were on. After I couldn't figure the relay problem and chalked it up to the point that you can't splice those two wires together because the stop major (red/white) is linked to both sides of the car so you can hit the brakes and both light up so by linking that with the signal wiring they two would blink in unison. So what do I do? I replaced the bottom back up light with an amber light and un-spliced the wires to bring them back to a stock wiring set up and ran the signal wiring to the bottom amber turn signal (green/black major and black ground wire) and converted the 3 input red oval light (tail/stop,turn/ground back over to each input carrying one of the following in correct location- tail/stop/ground. Now I think I'm slick and troubleshooted the problem correctly with the small inconvenience of relocating the back-up lights to the bumper but now a new problem arose that though everything now worked the turn signals blink like crazy. When I hit the hazards themselves knowing if I am correct, that they run on separate wiring leading into the turn signal wiring major they work fine and blink at a normal rate so its not any problem internally except for the turn signals themselves when they operate by themselves. What I did after that was change the lights because I thought that maybe they were the wrong voltage even though they were the ones that came directly from Desert Fab motorsports and were made by truck-lite. I switched them out for a bit higher voltage LED lights thinking that though they could sustain 14 volts (since If I am correct LED draw less current could catch anywhere from 14 to below voltage I would be set and the other bulbed lights were only 12 volt). But the same problem still occurs my next step is that maybe the turn signal bulbs in the front need to be changed over LED as well so that everything is operating on the same voltage but I doubt it will work. Desert Fab did not send over any directions either
So what to do Now? What did I do wrong in the first place considering that I see many of these two light from three light conversions on cherokees aplenty (like the Thor 4x4 rear quarter tail light guards/armor have the same light set up, so why aren't these guys having such a pain in the ass situation going on with their lights). Any suggestions on how to install these trailer/semi truck style lights onto a cherokee? Or any help would be greatly appreciated I'll admit that I am no rocket scientist when it comes to wiring but I'd rather do it myself then have someone else do it for me and have me look like an ass for not figuring out wiring 101.
Also everyone steer clear of the tail light housings they suck if someone can help me out as to how to figure my light situation I'm gonna scrap them and go for the THOR 4x4 ones anyway (they are better engineered)

Thanks for the help guys. I was checking prices and I'm gonna try the load equalizers first that definitely fits the bill as to what is going on with the turn signals again thx for the help.
And shorty send me a msg with info and when I'm ready to switch them out I'll definitely throw those tail light housings your way better someone get some use outa them then to throw them away.
