Rear Bumper Thread...

looking really good there dan! the trailor too. well as for myself, i think i have finished. got the rack welded up, mounted and painted... the camera took a dump for a while, so not too many progress pics sorry. but here is the final product:

this is the latching thing i came up with: i bent some plate to use as a stop, and then drilled a hole in it for a nipple off of the bumper to go through.... this way the latch which does pull down would have something to directly put pressure on. it really worked out quite well, and there is no rattleing at all.

as always comments and concerns are welcome.

d-giggity.

its for austria... my sister and bro in law lived there, and i have a thing for stickers....

And your last name is dgrigorenko (guess)? Sounds pretty Itialian to me lol. I love how you angled the tire with the back window. I can't stand racks where the tire is vertical.

Well I'm off again to get some more progress done...

Update time: didn't get a ton done. The thunderstorms were moving in fast. But I figured out a lot of things. The left side is pretty much mock tacked together. I still have to work a few gaps and clearances out. It sucks though, I ran out of carbon steel after doing the passenger side, so now the entire drivers side is out of stainless. We'll see which side lasts longer :shhh: The trailer also got painted tonight.

last name is Grigorenko... ukrainian... first name: dale... american... i think i'm 4th gen? so i'm pretty diluted with the rest of america now.

how did you make that say pee? obviously you rearranged the letters but how did you unstick/restick them?

Ah gotcha... Lol I thought of the pee when I was debadging everything. I got to the rear and took off the J, and it said pee backwards. So I carefully peeled off the P and stuck it back where the J was. It's funny because everyone that pulls behind me at a stop light chuckles.

DanMan, looks good. i like the corner details

Damascus ey, i used to live in darnestown. i played many a baseball game at the high school out ur way

Ohhh reeeeally... interesting. They have since split the school in half (clarksburg was built) and got bumped down to 3A. I was hoping to get the carrier primered tonight but its still raining pretty hard, and I'm sick of dealing with paint in moist environments. Like I've been saying, hopefully this weekend it will be done lol.

I like what you did for the latch. I have a stop plate with a bolt through it, and a broken u-joint that threads onto it to latch it shut. It doesn't rattle at all, but it is a bitch to open and close. Where did you pick up your latch? It looks like you could use a lighter duty latch with the pin through the stop plate

no freakin joke... i ordered one for a friend yesterday at lunch, and today at lunch it was here... awesome...

yeah i could have used a lighter duty latch, but the length and locking system of this one is very useful.

Dgrig, what weight capacity did you get? i don't have any idea what is sufficient. anyone think it is ok to bolt it instead of weld it?

i got the 2000lb locking clamp one... it is by no means pulling 2000lbs down on it, so bolting would probably work, welding for me was just quicker and easier.

its the #2 one 2000.

hope this helps

exactly what i was looking for. thanks

That's the same one I have as well. And like others said, I ordered it one night, and it was sitting on my doorstep when I got home from work the next.

the next step down is 700 lb capacity and if you get that one you will be disappointed

Yea the 700lb one is significantly smaller than the 2000lb one. I would definately cough up the extra couple bucks and get the 1ton. Stainless is always a favorite as well :)
