What is the correct way to install a trans cooler

I have a 2000 xj getting ready to install a dirt bound aux cooler and fan my question is what direction is the fluid flow iv heard different thing does the fluid enter the bottom of the radiator and go up or does it enter at the top and flow down to the bottom line

IIRC, the return line is the rearward hard line on the trans.

Follow it to the rad.

Actually, there is quite a bit of benefit to preheating the trans oil. Start watching modern cars and SUVs. Some of the imports are already building heat exchangers that divert engine heat to the trans to meet emissions and mileage requirements. Once the trans heats up the tranny fluid is diverted from the engine exchanger strictly to the cooler.
