Unibody Help - Rear Shock & Exhaust Mount

Hey Guys,

rust belt 99 xj

The cross member component of the unibody in my rear has broken free on the end where the exhaust hanger and shock mount to it. Due to poor maintenance of the exhaust system hangers extra weigh was put on the hanger by the axle. The extra weight and salt induced rust about 10inches of the "cross member" is now floating.

I have addressed the T-Case hanger and will be fixing the tail pipe hanger, but I'm not thrilled about the muffler hanger and shock bouncing around.

Is there a frame upgrade type of fix for this?

Do i slather it with stick weld and hope for the best??

What does the rest of the body look like? How about under the carpet?
This is is a serious problem and isn't! an easy problem to fix since the rotted crossmember is structural.
The sheet metal around the shock crossmember is fairly thin and it too may be damaged.
You need to determine if the body is worth keeping.
