Track Bar

What exactly does a track bar do? I found one on my 68 Jeepster Commando and was curious since I know that they are normally not for vehicle with leafs in the front. What use would it be on a leaf sprung vehicle? Thanks!

All a track bar does is ties the axle into the frame so that it doesn't allow the axle to move from side to side, but allows it to articulate or flex. it was probably used on the commando because of longish leafsprings that allow too much play when the wheel is turned.

One thing I do know that track bars are not stock on the Commando.
