The Frog Blog

You should still be able to get free replacement bushings from RE

You could sit pat on the rig right now and still have one of the better XJ around.

Busy weekend under the jeep. Got the Moog SB317 bushings installed in the leafs. Leaf straps installed to prevent the leafs from splaying, and the control arms adjusted to near perfect length. Welded up some 1.5" plugs for my prothane bump stops and I'm almost ready for SoCal Fest in early May.

For now, the rig drives great. Not sure what I'll break on my next trip to the mall.

I've been such a closet lurker on this site for too long . This build I followed from the start . I just didn't have an XJ back then.. Lol , long story. Nice work !

Thanks man. If I weren't so lazy I'd post more pics. I'm always screwing around with the jeep one way or another. Keeps me sane.

Here's a few pics from the past couple of days.

First shot is a pic of a failed RE leaf bushing after less than 2000 miles of driving. I replaced my leafs late last year and they failed that quickly.

Another view of both rear bushings. I replaced them with a pair of Moog SB317 bushings purchased from Amazon for a hair over 25 bucks. RE uses 2.5" wide x 1.5" dia bushings. This was a cheaper purchase than buying a full set form 4Wheel Parts.

I also removed my Prothane bump stops and fabbed up some plugs to prevent the ACOS tower from impaling the bump. That happened during my trip to Moab and it took a couple of long hours to remove the bump from the tower. I did not want to do that little project again.

I cut a 3" long threaded thread fitting in half and welded a 2" washer on each end. The threaded pipe fitting is 1.25" in dia, which actually measures about 1.5" wide for a perfect fit. The threads hold the cap in place perfectly.

The Long Arm lift makes spring removal and installation a snap.

Decided to also add my CREE LED fogs next to my spots. Installed a dedicated switch and relay so I can opt to run either or both sets. I started by adding a 1" flat iron piece to the bumper hoop. I like the CREEs because they are low profile and still allow me to install my removable winch without interference.

I always love looking at what you are doing on your rig. Thanks Kelly!

I like it Kelly. Looking good dude

Cool idea with those Prothanes. Thanks for the pic's too.

I have to say GREAT job on that Cherokee, it looks fantastic. And thanks for the pics on the drag link problem. That's my issue now.

Bought a 2005 Wrangler Unlimited Rubicon today. 23k miles, perfect shape, and never taken offroad. Cant wait to screw it up.

Better pics will be posted when I get the thing home. Looking forward to planning this thing out for the long run.

Holy crap man! So nice! Good for you. I love LJ's so much.

If you don't mind me asking, what did that run you? I probably could have afforded an LJ for the cost of my Dart. But the Dart outhandles any jeep and I am averaging 27 MPG right now. :)

I paid 24.5k. Been looking for this exact Jeep for a while and could not pass up the miles and condition. Ive seen a few high milage or non-Rubi LJs between 18-20k so this one was hard to pass up. They are getting harder to find and I wanted to grab this before it sold.
