yes. the 5.13s and hand throttle made crawling much more negotiable. but I think I can still benefit from lower. biggest thing is that I can build this dumb thing on the bench and install it whenever, no need to dismantle he jeep again until it becomes time for install.

Justin said he broke his at the crawl and was selling the goodies. I want said goodies... but someone beat me to the front of the line.

instead of uploading the photos to a dedicated image hosting site I just stole the URLs from facebook. facebook likes to change URLs every now and then, and of course these ones do not update nor can I edit the post.

its just years of me blabbing about nothing with only the last few months being actual fab and such. so your not really missing anything. if you want to see anything specific let me know.

Jeep is looking good Walt. Was it rocks and valleys you went to to test it out? Looks like its gonna be a pretty good rig.

shakedown run was at the mounds in Mt morris, Mi. this last trip was at RnV.

its working remarkably well actually, im very happy. and it only seems to be getting better. when i first built it, the rear was really springy, and wouldnt flex. its definitely softened up. where it would lift a tire before, it just keeps on drooping and compressing. there is definitely more in it. but right now everything stays sprung through the entire travel and its very balanced.

issues have been few, far between, and easy to deal with:
- i have a banjo bolt that keeps loosening up. i havent lost brakes completely, but i know exactly when it loosens up. the 2500 master cylinder keeps everything very firm otherwise. what i think is happening, is that the bolt is actually contacting the leaf spring itself, you can see witness marks on the leaf. it clears, but is very tight. i think when the leafs are fanning, they are working it loose. i ground the head, added some locktite, and am hoping for the best.
- steering box worked its way loose this last trip. though i am not sure i ever really tightened it. its locktited and torqued down now.
- had an annoying tick this past trip. when i redid my exhaust last week i ripped the push pin thing off of my O2 sensor connector and never zip tied it down. pretty sure i was banging off the drive shaft.
- steering pump was starting to make some noise this last trip. but that was at the end of running hump trail and big ugly without a break. i need to wire my E fan for a constant "on."
- engine temps stayed cool all day. but i do have a thirsty coolant gremlin somewhere. i keep adding coolant but dont ever see it leaking.
- i recently tore down the front end and checked everything (i didnt have time to do this before i moved). i found one spindle nut that had backed off. everything is repacked with grease and torqued down now.
- my slugs are like... 1980s factory waggy slugs. they work 100%, but dont have a seal on the cover. so they let in a little water. new solid industries drive flanges are on the way.

all in all... nothing major.

all of my image URLs in this thread are dead because up until this point i have been simply uploading everything to a private folder on facebook and copying the image URL from there, but facebook likes to change URLs frequently. i am going to get a photobucket account (or something similar) and use that from here on.

anyway... the last few times i have been out, i have been pushing the jeep pretty hard. and the last two times out, i have needed to not only be winched, but snatch blocked because i was pretty well stuck. i figured it was time i get one of my own. so i grabbed a harbor freight winch plate, cut it up, and got to building.

bit of a side note... i have been "priming" everything with a product called master coat, and have been very happy. its a bit pricey, but a little goes a long way. it is self etching, and a rust inhibitor. so yes, it will rust where it gets scratched off. but the rust does not propagate and cause paint to start peeling. a normal brush works, but i found a foam brush to be best. it doesnt leave ridges, and you can dab it into those hard to reach places. i usually just follow it up with rattle can black, and it has been holding up very well. but i misplaced the last foam brush i had and just brushed it on. so i followed it up with some cheap bed liner stuff, the texture helped to get ridge of the brush marks.

disregard the mess, i was doing concrete work in between coats of paint on the bumper. i just got to pick up some new hardware. i stripped out the crappy stuff smittybilt gives you by hand. the square nuts are easier to get to without the rope in place. so once i get that stuff i can spool it up.

side note, in my free time i have been designing a rear bumper for the jeep. sneak peak

made it to silver lake for the first time... once i figured out what gear to run everything in, the jeep was point and shoot as usual. it got ran harder than i usually do, and spent a lot of time on the rev limiter. but had zero issues all weekend.

headed up to rocks and valleys last saturday and got some crawling in before the snow.

i pushed the jeep pretty hard. most notably walking a tough line through winch hill and managing to claw up through the lot crawl. the stair stepper took a little bit of loud peddle to get up on 35s. unfortunately not a single photo was taken, but it was a good time none the less. one thing i noticed though was that everything crawled super easy. the ground was frozen, and you werent doing a lot of landscaping... digging holes and moving rocks. seemed to make a difference.

jeep was point and shoot as usual, but it is a little beat up now. i somehow manage to bust a shock mount off of the front axle. i think i was able to catch it before hurting the shocks. i also have a small power steering leak. other than that... it just needs the general grease, rebuild, nut/bolt check, weld check. should be good to go again. but that is a spring time kind of problem, its put away until i can stand to be outside working. my current garage setup isnt the greatest, still working on getting the new house up to par.

- i think i am going to remove the overdrive pulley from the power steering pump. the whine when on the throttle heavy is getting annoying.
- the front is way under sprung, deaver coils are on my christmas wish list. just got to take care of everyone else first, then ill treat myself.
- i want tube on the jeep. its getting to be a real priority.
