so, seeing as the jeep dealer is closed. i went over to ace and picked up 2 danco o-rings

the sizes are:
1x13/16x3/32 #57 stk no 35771b
1-9/16x1-5/16x1/8 #44 stk no 35758b

I forget which one goes where... Oops

But they are direct fits, and only cost .64

has same problem with the parts jockey at the local Chryco dealer-- specifically told him it was an '88 AMC adapter (in my case) and he ignored the part numbers listed and pulled the newer "H.O." kit off the shelf so he didn't have to order the correct one. "Trust but verify" was a lesson learned the hard way.

i'll hafta second the "don't use rtv" part...

i grabbed a new adaptor from a 1991 because i wanted to use the correct year filter on my wrong year (1990) engine...just some anal crap about not having the parts messed up by a oil change shop in case i'm too lazy to do it myself.

anyhow, the adaptor i grabbed turned out to still have the metric threads and used the same damn renix filter i was tryin' ta not use.

the worst part though was trying to reuse the o-rings. i figured a light coating of rtv would make up for any wear in the sealing surfaces/gaskets...boy was i wrong. within 10 seconds my jeep dumped probably 3qts of oil in the driveway from around the adaptor, i think.

i have no idea how my thin layer of rtv could allow such a spew, but it definitely didn't work. maybe there's something else wrong...any ideas?

i'm just gonna order new o-rings, or maybe a new adaptor kit from a slightly newer jeep, so i can finally can use the right air filter. can anyone tell me about the block-side threads? are they the same for renix blocks as the chryco blocks?

am i wrong in thinkin' i can just update the adaptor?
